ROQ - shader - sound

(Zer0Cool) #1

Hi,
i made a roq-file. I can play it in my map and it works fine, but i have no sound. How can i add sound? btw how can i record the sound from the demo? i readed smth about target_speaker but no one explained what to do with 'em.

/further question: when i add a roq ingame it just works with 256256, but this is to low for me. 512512 is not possible?

Last time I checked, ET doesn’t support ROQ movies. I think you want the RTCW editing forum :stuck_out_tongue: …but for rtcw, you can just directly add a speaker in radiant, specify the path/to/sound.wav there should be a checkbox for the sound to “start_on”, looping

For capturing the sound itself, there should be a free .wav recorders around. if not, you could use fraps to capture the sound/video then just deinterlace the sound from the video in the avi and convert the sound so its compatible with q3(44100hz, 22bit stereo)…etc… 8)

it support ROQ, look intro, its roq, and look at raybans roq fire stuff

next problem: I tried to make two different roqs which shall stand next to each other but it does not work. the video does not play anymore. just when i change the view so that i just can see on of them the video starts playing. Is this because of the limit of the engine or can I do something against it?

Wow, I stand corrected. I know the intro’s an roq, I just have this horrid memory of trying to get an old q3 model of a tv with an .roq playing on it to work, and never being able to get it working. Cool it works though

If in raybans roq flame, he has 8 candles playing happily together, you shouldn’t have a problem with 2, sounds weird.

Have any luck with the sound at all? For ET(forgive my rtcw assumption) the speakers need to be added “ingame” with the “speaker editor” Unfortunately we can’t just add a speaker in radiant.

The LDR explains the proper commands to get into/out of speaker editor mode, but here’s the basics. Once your map is loaded ingame:
\editspeakers -gets you into “speaker edit mode”
\dumpSpeaker -creates new speaker in front of camera
\modifySpeaker -allows you to modify selected/new speaker
-once selected you normally add your /path/to/sound.wav , set volume, targetname(for scripting reference if needed) etc
\undoSpeaker - will undo last command issued in “edit” mode

I believe you need to be in sv_pure 0(possibly developer 1 too) for it to work properly.

have any luck recording sound? I found a link for a program called vdub. it is a video “recompression” utility. but you can de-interlace sound from vid, (like if you record your demo with fraps, you can seperate the sound from the vid and use it in your speakers)

gl, sorry if i caused any confusion.

he has 8 times the same roq file! i want 2 different roq files in my map, and it seems like it will not work together!

ROQ flame video shader and candle models.

Look at the last post / it was some problems with the shader.

(Zer0Cool) #8

but is this because of the limit of the engine or is there a solution for this problem?

I want to reopen this topic because i still got some question about ROQ-files!

as you can read in my first post here, ROQs just work for me wit a resolution of 256256.
But on almost every webside i found about ROQs it says the maximum would be 512
384.

So:

  1. what is the limit for the Q3-engine, or rather whats the limit for ET? (if its not the same)
  2. how is the limit given? i asked a friend to check the ET sourcecode but he couldnt find smth about it.
  3. Is it possible to change this limitation?

here a page of a wiki that i found about ROQ:

AFAIK you can only have one roq visible. E.g 2 places textured with same roq works, but 2 places with different roq not. I suppose having a roq in one place, and another roq in another place could work (I mean so that they are not visible from each other for the engine).

here is more info http://planetquake.gamespy.com/pagetools/pagetools.php

AFAIK QuakeVideo Maker can only compile roq in on resolution, while the above can do anything you specify.
AFAIK they have to be in power of 2, as any texture in ET.

Thank you for the reply but this doesnt answer my questions.
Is there anyone who could help me with that? Maybe one of the Splashdamage guys?
