Rogue En Vogue, Pros and the Cons

(U.C.A.P) #1

After 5 weeks of playing the event, ive seen mostly of what this event has to offer from a new merc to new currencies to trinkets and even new skins. From my experience ill be talking about the pros and cons of this event as i feel there are some things that i need to get off my chest. (WARNING: everything here on out is just my opinion).

Pros:

  1. Trinkets : A nice cosmetic addition to our weapons, they are very nice looking however they cost a lot of cycles and unless you have a booster or know how to farm cycles effectively (which most of us dont know how) then its gonna take a while to get the trinkets.

Cons:

  1. Boosters : This particular topic has been very popular on the forums lately and although the idea itself is very good, the way in which it was badly explained and how they were not working as they were supposed to have been caused alot of confusion and grief amongst players and although we have acknowledged the fact that the DEVs have apologised, i feel that this should’ve have been done from the very beginning , i mean this event must have take some time to plan so surely if you had a lot of time to create this event you would have plenty of time to give proper explanations to how everything works? and also the boosters themselves, i myself have not bought any but i managed to get one event case (in which i received a terrible bushwacker with the hideous cricket bat) whereas others with more boosters got nothing so this was a major flaw in event.

  2. Culprit : This topic is where i feel was the biggest downfall of the ReV event. I loved the idea of introducing a new merc with an event that had a lore aspect behind it but how this was executed was just utterly bad. over the first 4 weeks, the entire community would be split 4 way between their favourite mercs, most popular merc wins and goes through to being a culprit. HOWEVER this just gives way to so much hatred of other mercs. ive seen so many people comment on how vassili doesnt deserve to win cuz he has terrible loadout cards or that hes used by newbs (which isnt a valid excuse, him losing this event wont stop noobs from spamming as vassili) and although there are people who arent like that and they just want their favourite merc to win but according to this event, at the end of week 5, only the small minority will actually benefit from this event cuz they recieved an obsidian card for their favourite merc whilst the majority (including myself) will just be pissed cuz we wasted 5 weeks of our time investing so many hours into the game only for us to lose out on our favourite merc cuz everyone wants a mine monkey. This event should have been planned out in a way where everyone benefits and unless RNG actually likes you and gives you your favourite loadout from an event case (if you are lucky enough to get an event case) then you basically just wasted your time.

Summary : To summarise everything i think the idea of introducing a merc in an event with a lore aspect is great BUT they need to work on ways for everyone to get something they wanted without having to heavily rely on RNG.

Total Rating: 2/10

If you agree with what i said pluz like cuz i need the likes and if you disagree … still like i mean it dont cost anything

They should’ve count only 60% of votes on Proxy, Vassili and Sawbonez. Sure, free rotations, but people still tend to stick to mercs they already had. And many people had Proxy and Vassili because they are only 30K and not 50K.
P.S. You’re very very wrong. Boosters obviously totally worked as intended. You just misunderstood how they worked you skrub!!!

(neverplayseriou) #3

isn’t it that when someone makes a new account the free rotation merc that’s in the squad next to aura/skyhammer will always be an engi? cause if so that’s already a huge benefit for proxy/fletcher cause most people won’t know (or care) enough about the mercs they have in their squad when they just start the game.

(ElDingDong) #4

i rate the event 0/10 because Proxy is winning

What kind of bullshit is this??

Think about it for a second before you call it bullshit.
I saw more Proxies and Vassilis when they weren’t in free rotation because they’re the first 2 mercs newbs buy. Cause they cost 30K. Which is 60% of 50K, what all other mercs cost. And it’s simple logic. they cost 60%, they count 60%. Aura and Skyhammer were completeley excluded from event because they cost 0. So why did cheaper mercs not get a handycap?

Something like this would have been nice. Not sure about 60%, seems a bit low. But maybe something like 75%? Though I wanted Vassili to be the culprit, there’s no denying the amount of people that use him because they’re new to the game and he’s cheap. And as already mentioned, Proxy was automatically put into new player’s squads because she’s an engi, right?

110% agree on these stupid culprit thing.

Like personally, I didn’t care even the slightest who’d win, it’s just some stupid skin and nothing more. The 4 way circlejerks between who wins were cringeworthy…

Visually it’s a better event then WtD (just a cash grab event) and the Containment War, it has a more involved story that is centered around the newly added merc. You can tell a lot more effort went into this event then any other event so far. Other then that the same problems from the other events continue onto this one.

  • Too expensive

It’s hard to deny that this event’s sole purpose was to try to drain your in-game currency. The low rate of the new event currency means it takes ages to gain enough for the boosters (which have their own problem) on top of the extra items, unless you use your in-game currency to buy the new currency.

In one way it gives purpose for in-game currency for the players who already have what they want and have been hoarding it without anything good to spend it on, on the other hand anyone who didn’t have a massive stock pile had to do it the incredibly long way.

The event boxes which were increased to 1% but cost way more, to someone without the extra credits it’s pretty much the same as the 0.3% boxes in the CW event.

  • Miscommunication

What a trainwreck the first week was. Something that could have been avoided if the event was communicated properly. The continuing theme of non-existant or cryptic information on the rates of cases and boosters from the other events creeping into this one shouldn’t be accepted by the gaming community despite it being F2P. If people knew exactly how much each of the boosters raised your chance, a lot of the ****storm would have never happened and people would have not mistakenly purchased items with their in-game money. The potential loss of customers is entirely on Nexon and Splash Damage.

The Obsidian case is another thing that seems to be up in the air. If both companies are smart, they can do what they can to not rub salt in the wound they caused, for both the player and company sake.

  • Overly “Ambitious”

Too many elements added to this event along with the lack of communication confused many players. The rotation idea was probably an idea best left on paper. It would be hard to imagine that SD didn’t already have a fairly good idea on the popularity of each merc if they kept track of the free rotations over the many months. While it would please the “majority” of players, I don’t doubt it created a semi-hostile environment in-game due to the purchased Obsidian case being linked with the special cycle event case. The players who had their money on the line were basically left to the whims of the community in what the card may or may not be. One could say that “Well you shouldn’t have bought the case until you knew”, that is true but it seems really…stupid from a business prospective in my eyes. You are basically punishing someone who purchased the bundle early (not understanding the event or wanting to play the new merc) making it seem a little sneaky, perhaps even a little shady. There are other ways to go about this and the one they picked was pretty bad.

In my opinion you want people to purchase your products and you want them to feel good about purchasing your product so that they will come back and purchase again. A lot of your business practices seems to want to do the opposite. The best thing you had to sell during this event was the trinkets, people knew what they were going to get and they seem to enjoy them. I’m sure that in the future people who purchased trinkets will purchase more.

In my eyes this event could had been much better then their previous events if they didn’t try to nickel and dime their customers along with communicating the event properly. I would rate this only slightly higher then the CW event due to the alternate ways to get the cases, but not by much.

It is my hope that they will do more visually appealing events like this but for Nexon to stop being Nexon and let people enjoy the event. Doesn’t mean you have to give away items, by all means you can make money but maybe you should make an event as a player rather then a soul sucking demon bent on world enslavement. Just a suggestion.

This. They did the opposite for me. I always have spare money on the side that I often use in games. And when playing DB I was putting quite some money in it, must score in the hundreds of € I think. But right now Im not giving them any cent anymore. This event tops it all. I’m fucking sick of all the unfix bugs and the new one created at every update the bad optimization of the game, the unjustified changes made for no reason but pleasing the dev when they play the game and make it easier for them. All those things asked about constantly that are ‘planned but with no ETA’, the shitty ranked mode the eternal beta state (being in beta doesnt prevent you to be cash grabbers tho) the awful RNG present everywhere.
I hadnt played something else than DB in a lot of time and these last days I did. I played another game you all know about. And I enjoyed myself way more in 2 days than I did in DB since september when I first started to play it. You’re probably gonna say that its not the same because they are only a little studio but this excuse only hold to some extent you cant blame everything on that.
