Rock, Paper, Shotgun Interviews Ed Stern, Lives to Tell Tale

Auto-aim puts the importance on movement anyway, consoles were never about aiming in the first place.

@Rahdo

To be quite honest, I’ve never seen a server option that allow the host to turn off aim assit. However, some of the original xbox fps didn’t have aim assit and it work really well for the competitive gamers I can give you an example, SOF: Double Helix. However, I’ve known 100’s of competitive console gamers that would like this feature enable/disable at the server level(tons of forum has convo like this). BRINK can change this trend(New Innovation), it will be a welcome gift for the competitive console gamers. I have so many friends including myself that turn off aim assist while playing. Please hear me out, it would be a bonus option to entertain both the competitive gamers as well as the casual gamers. Casual gamers can play on server that has this feature turn on while the competitive gamers can create their server with it off (Choice is a good thing). Like I mention before, having it at the server level will provide a fair server(everyone will have it off). Players that don’t like aim assist off can quit and join another server with it on.

I was a PC gamer and still play on it every now again. However, I’ve start playing on console and find it really hard to shoot at first but after alot of practice I’ve master this skill of shooting with a gamepad. Now find it very simple without any aim assist.

Thank you for considering this option in the server setup for console gamers.

lol, make it an option for PC servers as well, a new game mode “almost aimbot”, save people from buying hacks. They can have their own servers.

Haha good one.
Special servers with easy to unlock Aim-assist and X-ray glasses (wallhack)

…This might even work

The majority of console gamers are casual players, it’s nice that you can spend the time to master playing without aim assist, but not everyone can dedicate that amount of time. If Brink sold a measily 100,000 copies and you knew 1000 gamers that wanted aim assist removed… that would still only be 1% of the total that want it.

I guess having it as a host option would suit your needs, but i still stick by the premise of having it enabled by default.

(Floris) #46

By that account W:ET would have close to 0 players as well…

W:ET was a commercially produced game, which means it had all the usual publicity until Activision decided to release it for free. Since then the game has received a lot of publicity generated by the community. The game is still one of the most popular online FPS games (though I would really like to see where Paul Wedgwood gets the “it’s in the top 3 most played online FPS games” statistic), a title it has held for years.

(zXSwordXz) #47

@DarkangelUK
I have no problem for it to be enable by default. Just give us the option to disable it when we’re setting up a server.

(DarkangelUK) #48

Cool, wasn’t sure if that was what you mean, glad we agree

(RoryGreen) #49

As a console gamer, I wouldn’t really want servers with aim assist on OR off. If aim assist is in the game have it on all servers.

Let the PC gamers have the option to make servers with aim assist on/off but keep that away from consoles please.

If somebody doesn’t like having aim assist, they can turn it off in options but only for them, not a whole server.
If people want a game mode where it is turned off for everybody, have a ‘hardcore’ mode like cod with normal stuff turned off.

(Shiv) #50

Pc gamers don’t want aim assist at all tho
we don’t need it, it was invented so that console gamers could aim at enemies.

(zXSwordXz) #51

It amaze me how many console gamers find it hard to shoot with a controller and need aim assist. It is not that hard, the trick is in your character and not your crosshair. Once your crosshair/IS is within a couple inch from your enemy just strafe left/right. By strafing, you also make yourself hard for you opponent to hit you.

(tokamak) #52

Auto aim makes for way more controlled strafing though. That way you strafe wherever you want to go and not where you need to go in order to hit something.

(RoryGreen) #53

It isn’t that nobody can hit people without aim assist but it adds a more fun feel to the game. You can be more careless with your aiming and still get kills and have fun. Without it, on a console it would just get frustrating after a while if you kept missing. The console audience is more recreational gaming on the whole and many people do fail and need aim assist.

Most games, strafing on the console fails so badly. If they move to the side, you just follow them with your crosshairs and shoot them. The sideways movement is never as responsive as PC. The people who try to strafe end up concentrating on sideways movement and not shooting. The majority of the time, they fail.

(zXSwordXz) #54

I understand where you coming from. However, there are times when I’d like to play competitively with my friends against others and we’d prefer everyone to play with no aim assist which require more skill to have kills.

(tokamak) #55

Is that even possible on a console? I mean, networking wise?

If so then I indeed see no reason to turn aim assist as a server option (while keeping it as a default).

(zXSwordXz) #56

@tokamak, Yes, it is possible. It require some coding, nothing major.

(RoryGreen) #57

Yes, I totally see where you are coming from. That is why I mentioned the ‘hardcore’ style mode where these things can be off. It could also be an option for private matches.

My previous comment:

If people want a game mode where it is turned off for everybody, have a ‘hardcore’ mode like cod with normal stuff turned off.
