Rock, Paper, Shotgun EGE Impressions

(3Suns) #1

Rock, Paper, Shotgun has compiled a bunch of attendee impressions of Brink. Nice! :stroggtapir::stroggtapir::stroggtapir:

All very positive impressions. Good news.

Sounds like FF was on based on how many guys dropped 'nades on their team mates. VOIP either off or not implemented yet:

“Yes. It was good. I enjoyed the running and the shooting. I couldn’t talk to people which was a bit annoying.”

(3Suns) #4

“Yeah! Actually, I tell ya what, this is the most exciting level made entirely of crates I’ve ever played.”

ha ha ha Exedore, you should have gone with your original vision, to make it a crate city within a crate! LOL

hehehe I love how most of the stupidist things were related to grenades xD

What kind of site is that? Lots of good natured humour and even the comments are written in proper English. My mind has been blown.

PS:

Also, I forgot to mention a very nice subtle touch, when one of the other player characters communicates a voice message to you, you can hear any gunfire thats going on near to his position (The sound of the gunfire is modified to take into account that its over a radio, so you don’t get confused about the gunfire).

I like that!

Both the Eurogamer.net site, and the PC dedicated Rock, Paper, Shotgun blog founded by several Eurogamer connected writers, feature eloquent, articulate English articles on a regular basis. Very pleasurable to read, even if you don’t agree with their view points.

Are you saying that the gunshot sounds surrounding a player are overlapped with his voice when communicating via mic?
Is it pre-generated or taken on the fly from their surroundings?

Also, regarding how you can notify a downed player that your on your way to revive. (which seems time consuming to do and not likely to happen on the fly) I’m wondering if since they are tinkering with the mic communications between players, could it be that when your downed your mic isn’t audible or rather people can hear you and you can’t hear them? Therefore making the “On my way” prompt more enticing and useful besides the obvious XP bonus?

I think they might need to change the grenade button :stuck_out_tongue:

pretty sure he was talking about vsays, not VOIP.

It is a cool touch, maybe dependent on your sound settings and how many channels you have running or something (like a graphics sensitivity setting only for sound).

One of the most immersive features about a game can be it’s sound. ETQW sound wasn’t all that great. Old source games like DoD were better IMO (like the echoing of players voices and how they sounded when you were far away). BC2 sound is great. If you fire a vehicle next to a building it echoes completely differently than if you are in the open, or even next to a different building. I’ve never fired a chain gun on a Bradly, so I can’t say if it’s realistic, but it sure sounds realistic, and more importantly cool as hell.

Notice that the downed player can also see how many medics have selected the objective of reviving him in the recent video.

(DarkangelUK) #12

Also pressing UP on the d-pad snaps your view to the closest medic so you can see where they’re coming from.

What exactly is vsays?

I didn’t notice this at all and as another person pointed out about pressing up on dpad while downed to snap to the direction the medic is coming from. Very cool!

(LyndonL) #14

VSays is when you press a button to have a list of automatic thigns to say.

Ie Left 4 Dead where you press Z or X to bring up the menu, or Killing Floor how you press V.

(BioSnark) #15

That’s something. I also noted what to me was a glaring absence of distance indicators under the green medic icons as seen by the downed player.

(Nail) #16

what game has distance indicators ?

(.Chris.) #17

ET:QW had them.
