Riot Shield Merc

I made this thread to give an idea for a riot shield mercenary.

Merc Name: Phalanx

Abilities:
Riot shield: can take up to 240 damage from the front, and has a long ability regen rate (2 HP per second). If the riot shield is compromised it takes 2 minutes to get it back online, and cannot be deployed even if it’s partially restored, like Sparks’s Revive Gun. She cannot use primaries when using this ability, and right clicking just causes her to use her shield as a melee weapon.
[spoiler]Paint Grenade: A versatile grenade with a small blast radius, the paint grenade can detect enemies that were caught in its initial blast or walking through its field effect radius for 15 seconds. Up to two paint grenades can be used, but the downside to this ability is that the recharge time for one paint grenade is exactly 1 minute.[/spoiler]
Last Stand: when downed, the Phalanx can still attack enemies through her secondary weapon. This allows her to outlast as a threat to other mercs and take out critical menace that refuses to stand down.

Primary Weapons:
[spoiler]Shotgun: The Phalanx can use shotguns to defend herself if she is faced with the reality that she cannot use her riot shield. However the shotguns would be low grade for balancing reasons and the fact that nobody would use the class for shotguns anyways.
PDW: The Phalanx can use a PDW as well, to the same degree as she could with shotguns. However the PDWs would also be low grade for the same reasons.

High Caliber Handguns: As primary weapons, the Phalanx carries high-powered pistols with low clip ammunition and/or high recoil. Her cards are Agent cards because of this, just like how Sparks’s cards are called agents.

Secondary Weapons:
[spoiler]Semi-Automatic Pistols: Where the Phalanx falls for primary weapon power, she stands for her secondaries. Pistols are the most important part of her arsenal because it’s the only firearm she can use with the riot shield. She uses a wide variety of pistols because of this, from glocks to desert eagles to revolvers.[/spoiler]
Small Caliber Pistols: The Phalanx can carry small caliber handguns for more reliable damage over time. This still is nonetheless inferior to her primary weapons in straight up DPS.

8 - Selbstadt .40

Melee Weapons:
The Phalanx has access to melee weapons with long range, from katanas to batons to the cricket bats. She can use these weapons if she backs a person into a corner with her riot shield, and quickly execute someone using melee attacks from both her weapon and her shield. However, asking her to be able to whip down an enemy quickly with melee attacks is a bit much.

So basically the merc I posted about a month ago with higher HP, a Paint Grenade, and can shoot people whilst downed?

Im going to be brutaly honest and say no, this is far too strong. Too much health, especially considering he blocks frontal attacks at the same time as shooting with the pistol, and then you also give him a katana? No. Then you also give him a paint grenade? So he is an assault merc with buttloads of health, a spotting ability and a riot shield and a katana and a last stand??? No. You have gone way over the top with your abilities.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to make him more than just an Assault merc. Seeing as how someone said that he’s too strong now, I could see that a paint grenade would be over the top. I mean, the class was meant to draw lots of fire while being weak on the offensive side.

I intended the class to last the longest in a fight at the cost of being incredibly weak at killing things. I didn’t know that someone else posted a similar idea to mine.

Anyways, the Phalanx has a long cooldown for his riot shield and that shield can’t be regenerated by med packs. 2 minutes is a small eternity of game time.

Maybe the riot shield should have loose and crit spots to make it easier to deal with, such as hitting the center to keep the ability offline the longest, while hitting a facial area can deal damage to the user itself to get him down the fastest, or even gib him with a sniper rifle, neutralizing his second ability.

Also, his primaries are terrible, and his secondaries are only pistols, not SMGs or MPs. That should reduce his firepower. The Phalanx shouldn’t be able to close in well to melee much of anything, so anything should escape his reach.

*Balancing notes:
The riot shield has only 240 HP and only protects the front. Rhinos have 200 HP. The Phalanx has 180. In total, the Phalanx would have 360 HP in self-defense, plus possibly another 80, leading to a total of 440 if she only gets attacked from the front.

On the negative side, playing in this manner leads to the Phalanx using only the secondary weapon, and having possibly a major portion of vision obscured for the first 240 points of damage. This leads to firing blind and with weaker than normal weapons until down to the last 260.

However, this means that 260 HP is available for the player to make the most of that weapon. In practice this usually is a fair fight however, as Vassili is able to take down the Phalanx by moving out of range for a pistol. Regardless, it’s still an issue.

And on top of that the Phalanx can use shotguns in order to take out players at close range. I meant for the Phalanx to use the least effective primaries possible, but that seems difficult when the class has tons of HP to maximize. Obviously high DPS weapons like LMGs and ARs are out of the question, but I would like a list of weapons for the class.

Also, I edited my original post to make her female because why the hell not.

Updating this thread:
Phalanx now is an Agent. If you don’t know what that means, look at Sparks’ loadout cards and compare them to someone else’s. There’s something with the name of those cards that give a hint.

Phalanx now has a set of melee weapons. They are powerful, but don’t expect her to use them reliably. Especially not with the riot shield.

Phalanx carries only semi-automatic pistols and not machine pistols or any primary weapon. She pretty much has an extremely unreliable damage per second attached to above average survivability for an Assault class, it’s doubtful that she could protect medics. This however means less coding requirements as she doesn’t need to have restrictions against primary weapons put in the game.

2/5 DPS at the bonus of less than 500 possible HP in total, counting all abilities.
