How about to balance out making the rifles more accurate you give a starting engineer only 2 rifle-nades and 4 at lvl 1? They could still be allowed to go up to 4 and 8 respectively after picking up ammo packs. I would certainly be willing to make that sacrifice and I think anyone that wouldn’t relies far too much on their rifle-nades instead of their shooting.
Rifle accuracy
One thing is for certain, introduce an accurate rifle and you’ll get a whole bunch of camping, sniping engineers who only care about their frag count and not about repairing the tank. That’s probably the reason why SD made the rifle that inaccurate, I bet the early alpha versions had an accurate rifle until they became aware of certain disadvantages.
In all games I know with accurate and deadly weapons, gameplay slows down a lot, camper rate rises significantly and enjoyment (for me) drops rather sharply.
Enemy Camperland? No thanks
We discussed this a LOT during development, and pretty much went over the same ground as in the above thread. We started off from the standpoint of historically accurate weapons performance and was then progressively tweaked for game balance.
It’s a bit of a cliché that ‘Realism’ is necessarily no fun, but it certainly wasn’t any fun to be owned by rifles at long range when you’re packing a pistol-calibre SMG and can’t even reach them. Also, we wanted the Covert Ops to be a sneaky killer class, not an outright sniper perforating helmets from the other side of the map. So we messed with the accuracies. As with any compromise, the result is a “least-bad” solution rather than a perfectly consistent everyone’s-happy outcome. But them’s the breaks, alas. : }
So u’re afraid of too strong rifles? Here’s an overall idea:
Raise spread to 500 and remove the ‘always max’ spread override. When the rifleman moves faster than 160 UPS (runs, u can get up to 155 UPS when walking), move minimal spread to 0.35 (+ 0.15 = 0.5 * 500 = our old 250). Maybe raise rifle spread decrease rate a little so it enforces slow fire on long range. I also think that firing riflenade should take a bullet from magazine because there’s no blank round chambered in the animation. With all this, rifle will work just like now when moving and it will allow accurate long range fire but it’ll make u sitting duck.
If u don’t do this, at least don’t lie to player and always show full spread on dynamic crosshair.
Why make changes just for the heck of it? Thats what I get this post to be about. Though…
If u don’t do this, at least don’t lie to player and always show full spread on dynamic crosshair.
makes good solid sense.
Why change it? Because it won’t affect moving shooters (well, it’ll force a little slower fire) and allow accurate fire to a gun that SHOULD be accurate. Why should it be accurate? Go prone with SMG in long range against somebody who don’t have nade prepared to fire and u got 5 headshots in row while the other guy can’t even hit u (just try it).
U can fire SMGs infinitely long with perfect accuracy over whole fueldump when crouched and rifle will waste whole magazine just to hit once on this range in ANY stance…
SMGs should benefit from rate of fire and mobility, rifles from accuracy AND power.
the alternative would be to lower the rifle rof like rtcw’s sniper rifle.
rtcw’s weapon balance is very good.
what i want is for the rifle we have now to be taken off the game and add an M1 Garand with great accuracy and great power but of course the rate of fire would be slow because it would be a bolt action rifle
The M1 Garand is semi-auto, not bolt action. The K98 or Lee Enfield No4 would do it, though…
*rare attack of historical accuracy. Won’t happen again.
thats very tru lmao i done a project at college last year about world war 2 weapons i really should of known that but hey with the amount of time i spend on my computer im surprised i can remember what i did yesterday
anyways ok NOT THE M1 GARAND but a bolt action rifle would work well i think, i have to admit im quiet good with using the rifle nades and i do use it every so often but i wouldnt miss it if it was swapped for a different rifle.
