Rhino Ice Cold vs. Nitros

(Terminal_6) #1

In an extraordinary display of divine intervention by the RNGsus, I opened a Rhino R93 and A61 in silver, back-to-back from standard cases. But I don’t really play Rhino. I don’t hate him, but he’s never my first pick. Now I have these two cards, and I’m wondering the community’s opinion on either of them.

R93:
Remburg, Smjuth & Whetson, Cricket Bat
Nitros, Cool, Unshakeable

A61:
Ahnuld, Simeon .357, Beckhill Knife
Tough, Chopper, Ice Cold

The reason I’m comparing these two, other than the fact that I have them, is that they’re the only cards with Rhino’s ability-specific augments. I feel like most people use Nitros, but I’ve heard of some who swear by Ice Cold, and others who are fat shotty scouts.

I’m just looking for your opinions on either, to someone who doesn’t really use Rhino. Personally, I prefer the Ahnuld on the A61, but I like Unshakeable on the R93. Cool doesn’t really make sense on a guy who’s practically a mobile MG nest, but I don’t see myself using melee on him either, in the case of Chopper on the A61.
Then, of course, 2nd Edition Loadouts are coming and maybe I’ll find something better. Or maybe not.

Get the Ahnuld with Drilled, forget you have a minigun, and have more fun than you could think possible with a slow merc designed around holding M1 and walking.

Pretty sure R93 is better though if you somehow enjoy the minigun.

Somehow enjoy the minigun? MELTING people is so satisfying imo, hes really rewarding to play if you git gud with him. I’d go with nitros, you can wall jump into where you think someone is and have the minigun spun up by the time you hit the ground

If you were curious about the load out strengths/weaknesses, Nitros is much better for ambushing and starting to fire sooner. If you wish to maintain any form of accuracy with the mini gun, ice cold really has no use: you’ll be burst-firing the mini gun anyways - not holding down M1.

Ice cold is good for when a stream of enemies rushes at you: although let’s be honest. - If you’re taking the full cool down of the mini gun’s fire time to kill 4 people running at you, no perk is going to help you.

The only other application of ice cold is when using your mini gun on an EV or generator in an attempt to destroy it.

You want Nitrous. Every time. It allows you to be much more mobile, as it requires less time to shoot back after each movement (and believe me, you will need to be moving as Rhino if you want to avoid all the explosives that they will throw at you).

Ice Cold is good in massive team games (8v8) because it can allow you to deal with much more enemies, but in most cases Nitrous can mean the difference between killing someone before they kill you, or have them shoot and kill you before your minigun can start spinning properly.

Having finally played with Nitrous, it is by far superior, I was mowing down people like crazy with his minigun in an Underground match I had.

(MTLMortis) #8

nitro nitro nitro

There is absolutely no reason to ever be hitting the cooldown on the minigun.

Even if you’re blockading the entire other team you should still be burst firing.

It seems pretty clear then. Too bad those two cards I got are now outdated, because they replaced Cool in 2nd Edition.

(Cuck) #10

i got the alienware rhino that has nitro
at first i was like

what is this? i want my skoyhamma!
then i realized theres only one nitro loadout for rhino in gen one.
time to upgrade to other nitro loadout…

They replaced Cool with Quick Slash. That makes almost no difference whatsoever.

In fact, having Cool for Rhino is actually quite good, because he’s the most effective merc (in terms of stats) to man the MG turrets, since he has so much health.

Oh, I thought they replaced it with something else. I looked at the cards but I can’t really remember anyone, except that he now has an Ahnuld card with Nitros. Can’t remember the augments right now.

Fast game, fast gunplay, but the minigun slows you down and is incredibly boring to use. Sorry bud, I don’t see the enjoyment. If I wanted a slow paced game I wouldn’t be here.
