Rhino - Extra ability needed...

Rhino in the current build seems to have been nerfed something rotten.

Removing the full revives make him no stronger than a solly after the initial death while having a weaker chaingun that seems to burn out quicker then before. Lots of what I liked to call bugs also make him much weaker then he should be. The main bug is the fact that you do not get revived with your ability in hand and the same happens after dropping a jug or planting. This adds extra time that leads to death all to often.

The second ability would be called Thicken Hyde.
The core concept is a button that gives Rhino a 300hp sheild for 5 seconds and would cooldown for 30 seconds. The idea is to actually make Rhino a good jug carrier but still be balanced though his speed and size.

More then just his functionality it would really help increase his spectical.
Watching a Rhino walk though an airstrike or flames would really look cool and allow for some power plays that while create hype would not effect balance all that much.

I’ve been wanting an anti-explosives aoe bubble shield on c/d for him and possibly other soldier archetypes for a while now. All this stuff feeds into the counter ability topic.

I’m not against the suggested abilities. I just don’t think the belong to Rhino. Protective roles deserve unique dedicated mercs.

Rhino is the supressive fire merc. That means trading mobility for firepower. That way he should be able to lock himself down in favour of better fire power (or snaring/concussive effectts on his bullets) (1 second set up) or unlock himself (also takes time).

This takes Rhino back to the original functionality of the MG40 in W:ET where you could trade mobility for accuracy. Was an incredibly interesting mechanic but to stay true to supressive fire the effect should be something else than accuracy.

Another reason why it’s important that Rhino is expanded in this direction is because it’s incredibly hard to get suppresive fire right in games where players don’t care as much about their life as they would in reality. In reality supressive fire is a common and effective tactic in combat situations. But in games it’s never really used that way.

I think that’s a terrible shame. Rhino is the best opportunity to get this aspect completely right in DB.
