Rhino becoming even more situational?

Now that thunder and stoker are in the game, healing station rhinos are less effective due to molitovs and choke points are easily overrun due to thunders concusion grenades. I honestly believe that rhino needs some kind of buff as his hp is becoming less and less impressive with the addition of thunder who only has 40 less. Rhino seems to have become fairly easy to deal with even when he is in is element. Should rhino be changed or do people like him as he is? I still enjoy playing him, however he seems to have become a lot less useful overall.

Personally I feel like a rework is what he needs.

That minigun shouldn’t allow you to jump and sprint, but be good enough to at least tap fire with some good accuracy. On top of that, I feel like it needs an ammo counter, so it should be a primary weapon, with shotguns as his secondary. But that’s just me.

I agree with @Watsyurdeal on at least the movement and accuracy of the minigun, other than that, I think he’s fine

with the ROF of the minigun you better give him at least 200 rounds minimum in magasin if you want to make him have ammo and give him three magazine stored and one in the minigun starting or else it will be complete shit since half the bullet goes in the wind anyways, plus ammo means reload and a minigun will logically have a shitload of reload time. I feel like this would just break him. Maybe suppress the overheating of the weapon and make this overheating the reloading but still it would make icecool useless and we would be bound to overheat at some point nah im not for ammo, actually i dont think he really needs anything if you move smartly enough and dont go in too open spaces you can pretty much be deadly, and ennemies mostly always come the same way to throw their Flash/Molotov just avoid staying in those places, if some would be done the only thing id put would be a bit of accuracy but nothing making him more destructive than he is already, he is quite good to keep closed space objective like the barrier generator in bridge

Rhino was always easy to deal with because he’s a one dimensional, slow as sin ball of fat. I’d rather see him reworked to actually be something that’s fun to fight as and against, instead of just being a boring roadblock which you sometimes shoot at on your way to the fun.

Low skill ceiling mercs who slow games down to a crawl until you remove them just aren’t fun.

Rhino definitely got weaker with the introduction of Stoker and Thunder recently. And he was pretty weak already. What to do about it? No clue. He’s sort of in the game to fill a niche for some players.

He doesn’t need a change. Yes he sucks to play against, and he’s kinda boring to play with, but he fills a role that should, and probably needs, to be there. You don’t see Valve reworking the Heavy Weapons guy, even though everyone sorta agrees he’s boring to play.

Just leave Rhino the way he is. I don’t like it much either, but someone’s gotta play the extreme spectrum side of “slow and healthy”

My only thought is similar to @Watsyurdeal said, except he walks at the same speed he would carrying the minigun as he would be carrying it while it is revved, ammo counter and it actually being a weapon would be nice similar to how Nader’s grenade launcher was.

I think Rhino is still really strong despite Stoker and Thunder. I always have a hard time dealing with a good Rhino. It takes a lot of effort to get him down. Then he just spawns again, runs back to the objective and you have to deal with that turret again. People say he’s slow, but I disagree. I think he’s quite fast for being such a heavy beast. He´s very situational and only good in certain places. He´s boring to play and boring to play against, but that doesn´t mean he needs to change. I think he’s in a good place right now, borderline too strong.

I rarely play him, but here is the defense part of a game I played this weekend. Fairly balanced game. We won in the end, but it was pretty close.

I think Rhino should get a health boost so that he can maintain his position as the ‘tank’ of the game. Perhaps 30hp?
His minigun also needs to change. I would say reduce the rate of fire and increase the accuracy. Also, it should have a ammo counter so that he becomes more team mate dependant. 1000 rounds max?
As for his primary weapons i think he should get a machine pistol/ light SMG thing and a melee. they could probably boost his speed by 10 pts while their at it.

Its a tricky one.

I only think that the minigun needs better walking speed. So it can actualy be used in offencive a lot more. Curently its more defencive ability.

Rhino’s skill floor just went up is all. I’ve hit Rhino with Mollies and they manage to get out of the fire just fine (DAMN YOU, RHINO!). The thing is, if Rhino can’t get kills without sitting on a healing station than he’s not that good of a Rhino to begin with.

I don’t think Stoker and Thunder are huge banes to Rhino though. I agree with grave that his skill floor went up. You can’t just lug your minigun around anymore. A good rhino knows how to maneuver with his mini and knows when to switch to his shotgun when he’s has no time.

The principle issue with rhino is that you can only take 3 mercs into a game and he is a situational. Having said that, he is very useful on certain stages of certain maps when defending (such as the first stage of terminal by the mg). As a result he is part of the meta in competitive on certain maps.

To be fair Valve never rework anything, but they do add band-aid fixes to them - see Sandvich, GRU, Tomislav. :wink:

Do that without Aura’s health station and i’d be more impressed.
