Rhino and phantom idea

(Killerbannapple) #1

So far on the forums I have heard that phantom is a bad assassin and rhino is heavily reliant on a medic. What if refractive armor was split between the two mercs? Rhino would receive the health barrier from it, while phantom would receive the invisibility, but increased to 100% invisibility. Rhinos armor would block 40-75 damage and take upto 8 seconds to recharge depending on damage received. The ability would last until damaged or disabled. The armor could be activated at any time even if not fully charged. Phantoms armor would make him completely invisible regardless of movement and buff his katana’s heavy attack damage while cloaked. Using a heavy attack to end invisibility early will consume the remainepder of the duration but increase the heavy attacks damage. I’m not sure about the last part which the damage bonus but thought phantom would need a slight buff if he lost part of his ability. What do you think? Should nothing change? Is this the right place to post this question? Who knows!

Cloak % damage bonus
80%-100% = 80 + 35
50%-79% = 80 + 20
25%-49% = 80 + 10
5%-24% = 80 + 5
0%-4% = 80 - 10

I can see where you’re coming from, but Phantom is a hard case because if you would make him completely invisible there would be close to no counterplay.

I don’t know if you played during Phantom’s release but he created a lot of frustration. The nerfs made him more difficult to play, but I guess if you find a good balance between stealth, SMG and Katana, you could still do well.

Same could be said about Rhino. The game is heavily focused around team play, and I like that Rhino needs a medic with him to become a real pain.
Imagine a Rhino with extra armor. He could take out 2-3 guys in close quarters without a medic and still survive. Of course better players wouldn’t just rush him and flush him out with explosives, but those skills have cooldown and Rhino and his medic are not the only people in a team.

Who knows, maybe Phantom and Rhino will have to be changed/buffed a bit in the future with more mercs being released, but for now, I guess they should not necessarily get buffed.

Still some good ideas you brought up that could be discussed more.

Yea I feal the same way about phantom as even in his current state he is kind of obnoxious, ho [quote=“Ronneberg;107819”]I can see where you’re coming from, but Phantom is a hard case because if you would make him completely invisible there would be close to no counterplay.

I completely agree that phantom is very frustrating to fight against phantom even in his current state. The reason I added the melee boost cloak thing to my idea was to emphasize his effectiveness at killing a target separated from their team while making it difficult to melee enemies in a group due to the instant cloak drain. My goal was to make phantom a powerful assassin class capable of quickly eliminating opponents who fail to stick to their team, while punishing phantoms who rush groups of 3 or more due to their instant cloak loss after their first kill. He should be able to assassinate enemies before they can react, but with the risk of not being able to cloak your way out. As for rhino I like the way team play is encouraged as you said but I feel as if he is the only Merc whose health really disappears quickly. The problem he faces is that he cannot dodge enemy attacks while spun up making him an easy target for everyone. To top this off after each fight you need to wait a painfully long amount of time if you want to regenerate to full. A little extra expendable health would be nice in my opinion. Thanks for the feedback though.

Don’t really think any buff to Rhino is necessary. Phantom is, well, he’s alright at killing, just not good enough to be useful. Kind of an odd spot.

Rhino’s minigun does 300 or so damage per second at point-blank range. if you’re not an explosive class or a very long range class, good luck killing him: especially if he has a medic supporting him. This IS a team game after all.

Just what? Redeye and Vassili could both spot him with their abilities, thus in a team comp, you would actually need a recon class to do his/her job, also communication is literally Phantom’s biggest counter
