Rhine Bridge, released!

Rhine Bridge is finally done and ready for public release. This is the first public version and hopefully the last. But one never knows.

I have done the ALPHA and BETA tests and made the alterations needed. Now i need to know how it plays on public servers.

The only bug i know of is that the blowable things shows sometimes with a black/yellow thingy in the commandmap, dunno why.

Please report bugs here, feel free to complain as much as you want. I want to know what will make it better.

I have provided 2 download places for the map. Booth in Sweden.
Map is provided in zip format, unzip and place the rhine.pk3 the etmain folder.

Nacka Territory 217.215.164.246:27961, this may not always be online. This server is located in Stockholm, Sweden.

Nice map. I especially like the non-standard command map you made. Very creative and effective. The bridge construction entity is nice as well as it fits into the environment more than a stack of boxes would. Tried to play on the server specified but can’t find it so hopefully someone will pop this onto a server to try out.

EDIT: The axis spawn seems to be too close to the wall or something. When we spawn, most of the team ends up on top of the lockers and cant’ move until the guys below get out of the way. Might want to move it slightly more to the center or to a different location.

Map looks great! I took a quick run around it, taking in the sights. I can’t wait to play it on a server.

I think you may have started a new revolution. The command map and constructible points were very original. I see many a mapper taking inspiration from this!

As to the few problems I found:
-The orange squares seemed to run rampant as I went through building stuff. It actually affects gameplay as I couldn’t tell what the icons were supposed to be at certain points.

-There was some z-fighting on the bridge once it has been constructed. (Overlapping brushes).

  • The axis spawn area was too dark for me. I couldn’t see where I was when I spawned in.

-What happens if someone is next to the doors when the door bars get built? Are they trapped inside?

-You need another way to get out of the river. I fell in and had to swim forever to get out. Maybe a ladder on the Allied side by the dam.

-Some mild texture mis-alignment. I remember the grass in front of the allied side of the train tunnel was a case. Don’t know how anal you want to be about those sorts of things.

Also, a suggestion if you’ll allow. :nod:
The shadows are pretty blocky and I think compiling with -samples 2 or 3 would smooth those out. Shouldn’t increase compile times to much either, but would make things look really nice! :smiley:

Now this is a cool map (veeeeery pretty), but I have to ask this question.

Is there a point to building (fixing) the bridge? Why don’t you just hop it?

this is one of the best maps i have EVER seen. I congratulate you.

one tip though: i say dynamite has to be planted nearer to the middle of bridge to make it easier on allies. right now they could plant it on axis side and itd be impossible to get over.

i also suggest making the spawn lighter for axis.

Great map :clap:

I’ve noticed one thing : I (axis) plant a dynamite over a pilar of the bridge (i was in the water). I’ve got the voice “Dynamite plant !!” but the bridge didn’t explode.

I’ve the same bug with the “orange square in the map” in place of the objectives for both side (axis and allied)

a lot of people are constructively and intelligently criticising on these seervers.

it is pretty much unanimous that axis is very favored and allies need perhaps a forward bunker and a few more perks.

Ive only tried this map by myself.
There is one place where you can get stuck. it is on the axis’ side, top left corner of square D7. there is a little pool of water. In the right corner of that pool, i get stuck.
The west big room, on axis’ side, has a blue door. Nothing wrong with blue, but the door goes wrong way (for me). i want it to go “out” not “in”.
Nothing more, at the moment.

I like! Very cool map :slight_smile:

Although I think the construction speed of the bridge is too fast, 1 engi can build the bridge in 4-5 seconds. And, I noticed a non-solid fence.

PS: I don’t play so dark, the screenshots make it dark :wink:

Should I be able to jump the gap in the bridge :eek: - I assumed not, but was one of the first things I tried and had success with. Kind of renders the whole build/destroy concept for the bridge a touch pointless if you can achieve a quick rush a balletic jump and boom!

hey, i jus played on the map online, noticed a few errors, succeed is spelt rong on the TOP SECRET loadin screen.

as sum1 else sed, the bridge can b built in a matta of seconds, so why not split the bridge up in different sections wich all hav to built,

in a 10v10 game, the door is too close to the axis spawn point i tink, but others might disagree. (ie spawn point + objectiv in fuel dump)

but ova all, no boring textures, and i look forward to playin it 10v10
