Yep it´s true, finally!

I have made alot of alterations to the map, mostly from suggestions from this forum and posts in my own forum and alot of e-mail. Tnx alot for the very good feedback.

New in version 2

#.Added a forward spawn flag that both teams can capture to gain closer spawning to the enemy.
#.Moved the Axis spawning place further away, and remade the spawn area so you cannot get trapped inside the bars.
#.Made the bridge construct zone larger. Removed alot of doors.
#.Remade the textures that had Nazi symbols on them so that german servers wont get in trouble.
#.Added Stairs on the other side for Axis to build.
#.Added a ladder on the Allies side buildable, goes to a new created bunker in the middle mountain.
#.Moved the Ammo and Health cabinets up to the new created Allied bunker.
#.Many small alterations on several places.
#.Made some alterations to the caves.
#.Fixed the Black/yellow icons showing up on the Commandmap by making my own images of the actual things.

Installation: Place the rhine2.pk3 to your etmain folder, select it from the multiplayer->create server menu or bring down the console and type: map rhine.

ya drakitr i played found a little glitch, allies can destroy doorbars with just a grenade

otherwis very nice map

It´s not a glitch, i remade it to be destroyed by only a gren for this release.

Just one thing, I don’t think that forward spawn is a ‘forward bunker’ :wink:

NOTICE!!!

There is another version of the map running at a few servers, that version is incorrect. That is the BETA from last nites testrun on a personal server with download on. So if you have the above file downloaded and still get a DL message that server is running the wrong version.
My misstake to not rename the BETA last nite to another name. Didnt know it would spread that fast.

Well i did not find any other soundfiles than “Capture Forward Bunker” and i do not sound that alike the guy who made the sounds for ET. So i decided to go with the sounds that already existed.

There is a bug/feature as an Axis when you swim across and build the stairs on the shoreline. You die instantly once the stairs are built. Similar to how an Axis gets crushed on Fuel Dump if he is at wrong place when Allied builds bridge.

The only problem of course is that it kills the wrong side lol.

Wish you had changed the lighting to something more dramatic (specifically in the tunnels) :frowning:

Some very cool changes and fixes. The map is getting pretty darned perfect (near). Keep up the awesome work!

A suggestion to map makers…do not release your maps in a ZIP file! Once the file gets renamed to a PK3 file the server thinks it is a different version because of the date (atleast that seems what is going on). You end up having to redownload the file :frowning:

Also suggest to map makers you release your beta maps by placing a number in them…ie Rhine v.02 and when you think you have your final version with all the bug fixes then just call it “Rhine”. Just an idea.

Nice changes. I only tested a couple of rounds but the map is more balanced now. The forward spawn flag makes room for more tactics on both sides, and if Axis don’t work hard for it they can be in big trouble.

The outer door for the bunker is a very neat idea. You can blow it with a grenade, so it does not seem to be important, but if Axis build it they can plant mines behind that cov ops cannot see. Nice idea.

Worst. Suggestion. Ever.

Not really of course, sorry, just having a bit of a Comic Book Guy moment there but nevertheless, maps should be released as zips, always! Why? Because pk3 is not a standard file type, so lots of browsers don’t recognise it and try opening the pk3 as a page if you just click the link instead of going RightClick-SaveTargetAs.

So the correct thing to do is put your pk3 INSIDE a zip file to release it. That way you don’t mess up people whose browsers or systems aren’t set up to know what a pk3 is, and you can be sure that the datestamp on the pk3 will remain unaltered! Everyone is happy and world peace is declared!

Now this is a good idea: It’s what most of the better Quake 3 mappers have been doing for years (BAP3DM2B1, BAP3DM2B2, BAP3DM2B3, etc. until eventually BAP3DM2 comes out and is loved by all :wink: ). Dunno how common it is to do things this way in the Wolf community, but I’ve been very surprised to see people releasing maps with a final-style name so soon after the tools release, given the considerable complexity and balancing issues in an ET map. And the releasing of updated pk3s with the same name as the old one, makes me cry it’s so silly :frowning: (Not necessarily in your case Drakir, it sounds like a private test version was leaked? The potential for this sort of thing made me unduly paranoid with my Q3 maps, and even minor updates to my levels that were tested only on LAN at work got unique pk3 names)

Umn, maybe we should start a seperate thread on this rather than spammify Drakir’s release thread :slight_smile:

Are you sure you weren’t on a server with the BETA rhine2? I visited 3 pubs yesterday, all of them had rhine2 BETA.

first of all, great map. i LOVE it… truly in the spirit of ET. hope this one will be part of a campaign someday.

But : i dont know whether this happens only @ my end, but when i cap the forward spawnpoint, there is no spawnflag displayed in the limbo map.
When i click at the map at the location where the flag should be, i am able to spawn there. (is no biggie tho)

Something stupid I noticed you might want to just change for version 3 if you make one is in the mission briefing i think it says “the” instead of “them” so the sentence doesnt make sense (its during the loading screen). Its not a big deal at all but this map is truely awesome and that would just make it more polished.

Gah I can’t get onto any servers running this map. They either say ‘for low pings only’ (is 49 really that high?) or I get the error:

“couldn’t load an official pak file; verify your installation and make sure it’s updated to the latest version”

…I’m guessing that’s the servers that are still running the old beta?

[Edit: Oops I’m getting that error with ALL maps, hmm I knew I should’ve left that pak file alone…]

OK been playing for a while. Very nice map, hope I can make some like this one day :slight_smile:

Only probs I noticed were:
-The flag pole thing that you capture in the tunnel is hard to, er, capture. Seems I had to run around it and move about before it would accept it, instead of just having to touch it as in the normal ET maps.
-There’s a room with a toilet in, on the roof of that there’s a little camping spot, while I was there I spotted an Axis player about to run up the ladder so I sat and waited for him to get to the top, however instead of coming up the ladder he suddenly took a shortcut and flew through the floor appearing right next to me.
-A few walls are a bit high and you lose energy, like near the first Allied spawn those trenches are pretty deep. Also if you build the stairs and go up, it leads to a window that’s very hard to fit through and a big drop. If you go back, then running down the steep stairs also makes you drop and lose energy. While at the top in that sniping room, it’s also easy to get stuck round the corner or just between the walls if ppl don’t notice you and move out the way.

But overall very nice! First third-party map I’ve played in ET, I was wondering what the general standard will be like and how much time I’ll need to spend on my map, and now I know it’ll be a looooong time :slight_smile:
