Rewarding more the team-based actions.

(RasteRayzeR) #1

While discussing with the guys on the IRC, we came to the conclusion that only killers can get to the top of the XP list. Shouldn’t it be the team supporting and objective-oriented actions instead ?

For example, the medics could have revive sprees : extra xp for each revive increasing with the number of revives you get. The counter resets if you die.

There could be many other ideas for field ops, engineers, etc. This would promote the team-based side of the game without letting the support players down at the bottom of the XP ranking in a match.

// -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
// EDIT : concrete idea of how this could be applied :
// -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Soldiers : they get more kills, thus more xp via the killing sprees’ bonuses, resets upon death.
Medics : increasing extra xp for each new revive, resets upon death.
Engineer : give more xp with each objective carried, could be kept for the whole match.
Fops : increasing extra xp for each ammo pack delivered to a guy actually needing it (so you don’t get xp for tossing them around without purpose), resets upon death.
CVops : no idea yet, they don’t have any purpose actually. They could have the same reward as soldiers.

Very good idea! I think there should be also sprees for engineers and other classes. Like the more objectives you build as engineer in one life the more xp you get.

Gets my vote

The people who should top the chart are the people who do both. But definitely killers should earn more than simply tossing packs and reviving. Objectives are a mixed bag.

I don’t see why people are concerned about who really tops charts anyway. And clearly the biggest benefit towards winning is being able to kill well anyway.

It’s not exactly about topping charts, it’s about promoting the team-based actions. Look it that way :

Soldiers : they get more kills, thus more xp via the killing sprees’ bonuses, resets upon death.
Medics : increasing extra xp for each new revive, resets upon death.
Engineer : give more xp with each objective carried, could be kept for the whole match.

Not everyone is a killer, many play objective thanks to the support of killers, that’s how I see it.

EDIT : in the end the best are still the ones who can do both objectives and killing, but you don’t leave behind those who cannot. It can motivate them to improve actually

In general: Not necessarily. - Currently in Xt: Probably.

(FireWorks) #7

Guys that stuff is already implemented.

The awards that got add recently.

Revive spree etc.

Still room for more tweaking etc but the fundaments are layed.

(delete) #8

Definitely do need more team play oriented scoreboard stuff, or else this game will just end up being an “objective hump TDM”.

(Glottis-3D) #9

very much needed.

maybe also ‘1000HP healed’ medal?

(Snotling) #10

I like this idea, but I fear that if revives spree or dropping bonuses get players too high on the scoreboard, we’ll see people dedicating themselves to supporting others for XP without brain. A greedy medic could revive you under enemy fire, run away, pick you up again, run away, etc… The balance between frags and interactions with the team must be kept to prevent XP hunters from letting their guns aside.

(INF3RN0) #11

Most people at the top of the scoreboards are the best killers and obj players. Those that just go for kdr tend to lose more matches from what I’ve seen. Either way it’s too often that people are under the delusion that people top fragging don’t know how to play the obj or for their team . If anything winning should offer some more incentive, like a random lotto for gp/boosters/weapon cases/skins/etc that only the winning team can get. The worst solution is trying to force people to play the way you think they should, but anyone who plays for kills isn’t concerned with xp or winning and anyone playing for xp isn’t concerned about winning either. So there should be a more fail safe means to promote it, specifically in correlation with the most important thing- winning the match. Whatever the means to that end are shouldn’t really matter.

(Runeforce) #12

When I medic, I am always at the top of the scoreboard (or near the top,) and I have a horrible KD rating, so I disagree with the premise.

(Glottis-3D) #13

maybe:
extra XP for winning.
win/Loose stats

MVP medals (combination of k/d, objects made, revives made, damage dealt)

(Violator) #14

I’ve also been top before with a terrible k/d though fragging seems to get you there most of the time, and killing the enemy is often the most effective way to win so its a self-fulffilling prophecy.

Recon could get ‘spotted player kill sprees’ (ie a teammate killed a player that you spotted).

(Finko) #15

Yes, it will be some motivation for guys who play obj and revive/heal mates

Vassili and his radar nade give a very decent score. On some maps you get 3/4 of the total killing points for your team as you mark about every enemy and get 75 each.

(Exedore) #17

Expect significant changes to XP calculations.

(stealth6) #18

I agree you should be rewarded for team actions, but you should get the most points for getting a kill. For example if I get 100 points for reviving somebody & 100 points for killing somebody and the choice presents itself, I’m going for the revive  (even though it’s probably going to be a bad situation for the person I’m reviving)

(FireWorks) #19

In your example Id go for the kill and then the revive for 200points plus the further XP lll get from this life. Id only have to win 50% (more likely only 30%) of those situations to outscore you by far. All while you are watching the respawn timer ticking.

I disagree there, you should not promote topfraggers automatically to topscorers. It just leads away from objectives that win the game.

I’m pretty sure if you kill the entire enemy team you’re going to win the game. (unless nobody picks up the objective, but then these changes won’t help either)
