Review embargo.

(DazTroyer) #1

As is the way these days with all games, there is no doubt a embargo on the time reviews can be posted on the net etc. Anyone got any idea what day/time that actually is?

(RadBrad31) #2

I would guess release day, to prevent people from dropping pre-orders from 1 or 2 bad reviews by COD loving reviewers.

(crazyfoolish) #3

Yeah i’m guessing release day in the US. Is it even legal to suspend reviews after this point?

(SentencedToBurn) #4

I’d probably guess the same; seems there’s no shortage of sub-par reviewers out there who would stop at nothing to smear any game that even comes close to threatening Black-Ops… which isn’t really a hard task, considering Black Ops is the worst COD installment to date. Props again to Treyarch, who can take the most respected FPS franchise in the world and turn it into a gimmicky, piece-of-crap laughingstock of a game.

Indeed, these reveiws telling people Brink has dumb AI and bad graphics and all other kinds of blasphamy is not helping and is turning off quite a few people, or scaring them.

(tangoliber) #6

It’s practically impossible to give this game a fair review on release day. You would need to play it online for at least a week I’d say to accurately review it.

Day 1 players always have messed up ideas of what is “overpowered”. Reviewers at places like IGN have no problem suggesting that certain abilities or weapons are overpowered. Those ideas are usually wrong. I remember that in KZ2, everyone screamed about shotguns for the first few weeks. Turns out, the shotgun was later seen as a liability in competitive play…a weakness you had to learn to deal with in order to play as engineer.

(Gamer2Gamers) #7

exactly and that is just literally a handful of people imagine one big review that is negative that can REALLY hurt this game.

(SentencedToBurn) #8

Agreed, It’s kind of necessary to have a large community playing the game at the same time to really review something like BRINK. Human decisions and interaction, teamwork, etc can be mimicked by AI, but never duplicated. And these are the factors that will probably define the bulk of the gameplay, it would seem.

No review will turn me off this game, It looks really refreshing. Can’t wait.

I have a bad feeling about the PC version that’s why
i didn’t pre-order yet.

I’m waiting for the US dudes to post their opinions about
Brink’s pc version (mostly performance and game options).

I believe tomorrow reviews will show up.

I think most US dudes are playing the xbox version. I guess the best place to get informations about the pc version (once it is released) is the steam forum. There, you are sure to meet only PC players and to read the first pc reviews.

There are many US competitive PC players here on this forum.

(tokamak) #12

There’s no legalities involved, if they break the embargo then Bethesda won’t supply them with games in-time to review any more. The press also understands the importance of the embargo as a competition for the first review would be really bad for business.

I have a theory that the reason they haven’t shown pc gameplay is because the pc version looks much better than the console version and they dont want an uproar of sorts.

At least that’s what my wolfenstein heartbroken heart wishes.

(Angrim) #14

In August 2009 at gamescom Cologne they showed us some Container City footage that featured vastly superior shadows and much more detailed textures compared to more or less everything else we got to see until now.

If that was the PC version (and I personally believe it was) you might be right about their reasons. The other much less pleasant option would me a very poorly optimized PC version.

In the end we will have to wait until tomorrow to be sure about this.

(Weyoun) #15

I would assume that too. But than again, this lack of PC-info might hurt their PC-sales too. So it is mostly a lose-lose-situation for SD I reckon.

I still have hight hopes for the PC-gameplay. The 1 hour X-Box movie I watched this morning showed a lot of the gameplay and it is very ET:QW-esque…minus the verhicles that is. I didn’t mind the graphics since the PC version should really be prettier. Heck, I could even live with mediocre graphics as long as the gameplay is awesome. Which I don’t doubt.

agreed.

Also bethesda is solely responsible for the lack of pc footage and the lack of tv commercials and such…

(Insanity) #17

I’d say Black Ops is better than MW2 gameplay-wise. Definately far less gimmicky, there are some some like the RC-XD but at least there’s no ridiculous AC-130 or tactical nuke and guns actually have some degree of recoil.

I hope Brink is enjoyed by critics but I’m worried they’ll miss the point of the game and mark it down due to the bad AI (if it’s as bad as people are making it out to be).

(tokamak) #18

No worries mate, the console versions sell much better anyway, no need to give a hoot about the PC.
