What I understood from the stream was just that this is just the start of things. Factions are flavour/lore right now, but I can’t imagine them having decided to throw them in just for fun - no doubt we’ll see stuff for/from them in the future, such as skins and the like. As for explaining why they’re using mercs, I guess sometimes to kill a badass you have to hire your own badass?
