Retro, Festival, or Throwback skins.

This idea randomly came whilst in a game with some Phantoms and I started to think about the how the founders’ cards look very different from the standard loadouts as far as the way the merc’s look.
The idea is that maybe SD can make certain cards akin to the founders that change the look of the mercs entirely, albiet only cosmetic. I want to reference aspects of the merc’s heritage or life history, so there is no consistancy on everyone. I will give some examples of the direction I feel it should go with a few mercs as examples.

The loadouts do not differ from the current or future lot, and everything is just cosmetic. Feel free to add your own views of what might work for characters I did not list, or what you think may work better for what I’ve listed.

Retro Phantom:
Player Skin: Classic Black/Dark Blue Ninja Outfit
Primary: Random SMG - Painted Black w/ Midnight Blue Highlights, maybe metallic reflective shuriken star shapes.
Secondary: Random Pisol - Same as above
Melee: Replaces tactical katana w/ traditional Katana, Wakizashi, or Hollywood Ninjato | Other knives w/ Tanto’s for beckhill, and Kunai for stilleto]

Retro Redeye:
Player Skin: Young Redeye w/ black Hair and facial hair. Black and green night ops Vietnam era SAS outfit and possibly Sunglasses, maybe w/ red tints instead of black or grey - Possibly a field eye patch sorta like the Punisher in this pic
http://www.comicsalliance.com/files/2014/09/punisher-Marco-Checchetto.jpg
Primary: His gun is already pretty retro as is, but the colors should compliment the outfit]
Secondary: For the 1911/Caulden, using the original government model with A1 style hammer would suit the time period
Melee: Maybe a machete, bowie, or ka-bar to replace kukri, beckhill, and stiletto respectively

Retro Kira:
Player Skin: Hybrid of white and pink Yukata with a cherry blossom motif, and light samurai armor replacing where her tactical gear and vest would be. She’d sorta look like a kendo student in the end, and can finally “Kimono over to your place” or at least barracks
Primary: Cherry Blossom Motif on the guns, whites, pinks, and blacks and greens where needed
Secondary: [See above]
Melee: See Phantom for the other knives, the look of the cricket bat can be replaced by a wakizashi, which is the shorter companion katana that samurais carried

Retro Skyhammer:
Player Skin: Kilt ala William Wallace Style with hybrid bagpipe player motifs, and blue face paint in some pattern, maybe even druid
Primary/Secondary: Won’t comment on the colors for this as it will confuse everyone, but I Presume kilt patterns might work.
Melee: Dirk for Beckhill, Bagpipe pipe for cricket bat, and a Sgian-dubh for stiletto - these all having Gaelic runes or something to accentuate the Scottish heritage

Retro Turtle:
Player Skin: Ottoman Style outfit like these dudes that fought Dracula, or something like you see in whirling dervishes
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/D-XBd6MYMuI/hqdefault.jpg
Primary/Secondary: Maybe alot of blues, whites, and metallic gold as a reference to the Ottoman sultanate and structures that use those colors.
Melee: If he ever has a sword equivalent, it would have to be the Kilij or the Schimitar, but a mace or a dull variety of the swords mentioned could work for the cricket bat. For the Bechhill, maybe a very short Yataghan, and for the stiletto whatever those small curved ornament knives are called.

Retro Nader:
Player Skin: Twin blonde pony tails, and a mix between an Oktoberfest outfit, with viking motifs and Brynhildr/ or Viking horns of course.
Primary/Secondary: ?
Melee: Viking Battle Axe replacing something…naturally.

Sawbones:
Player Skin: Cajun alligator hunter, based on his accent and sometimes ambiguous ethnicity, with some medical stuff thrown in. See Troy Landry.
Primaries/Secondaries: Lot’s of greens, tans, and swamp colors. W/ whites and a little blue on a bandage pack or something, maybe a side fanny pack or whatever that’s called.
Melee: Alligator leather patterns on standard knives

Retro Phoenix:
Player Skin: Goose from TopGun basically with majestic mustache, and some medical symbols here and there, and of course a matador cape with Phoenix the animal motifs.
Well the Phoenix one is more of a joke, but you never know.

Retro Aimee:
Player Skin: Parisian 60’s beatnik in a coffee shop is all I can come up with.

Retro Fragger:
Player Skin: IT Developer, glassses, buttoned up pants and white suit. Basically this guy
http://www.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/2015330/rs_1024x604-150430115952-4d9f353d88174d81f376a73c8bb8e809660d18c0.png
Hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully some of these might be a reality sometime in the future.

I like the idea apart from completely changing the model for the melee weapons etc.
Hopefully more skins will be added (some of these would definitely be cool) and I hope that we will see skins to be separated from load outs so we don’t have to get stupid event cases with a tiny chance to drop. It would still be a small chance but a talk about that here

Anyway cool ideas!

holy crap I love this idea, just reskin weapons instead of changing some completely. But overall this is a beautiful idea.

(KnightDemon) #5

Glad you like it,
I’ve noticed of recent others were suggesting similar ideas and there seems to be a general consensus that minor alteration skins akin to the founders pack would be great. Hope the developers take note of all of them and put them into consideration.

I like the ideas, but how rarely the crates drop for members who don’t pay 40 dollars at a time with no selection of which Loadout is given, What would be the point?

(KnightDemon) #7

I have noticed crates have been dropping increasingly less and less when before it seemed they would drop after every other match. My way about it is I just get the bronze of what loadout I want, and if there is a lucky drop then yay! If not there is always the option of trading up, but I definitely understand where you are coming from and can see how that lessens the incentive for playing when people can just buy their way to goodies. Thankfully, this game is not pay-to-win like some other games which I shan’t name as that would probably break some Tos somewhere, but you can speculate  .

Considering there is no effect on game-play other than looks, if people are willing to shell an inordinate amount to support SD, then that is their prerogative and someone always will end up paying for the glitz and glam. It at least provides some income to SD to hopefully improve our game. That being said, I agree with you on the crazy prices and would never pay for something expensive like that, and personally hate micro-transactions. The humble bundle deal was a great one and I know many people took up that offer because it had great returns on the part of the consumer, and you could even think of it as free if your intention was to donate a set amount to a particular charity anyway.

(BananaSlug) #8

maybe if they would be like bronzes in shop ?
idk 4$ each

and mercs cant be too different, only details like hairs. this is because of problems with identifying merc on battlefield,

Oh lord I’m crying tears of laughter…
It’s astroNAUT, “naught” means “nothing”
“All burned till naught remained but ash,” I think I remember that from somewhere.
