Request - audio prompts when out of ammo

(AssortedStuff) #1

I hope I’m posting this in the correct place.

I’d like the merc I’m playing as to inform me, verbally, that I’ve run out of ammo for the gun I’m using.
It’s not uncommon to be in the middle of a fire fight and suddenly realise that I haven’t been shooting for a while because I’ve ran out of ammo :frowning:

Switching weapons when that happens should be the norm, but I’d really appreciate the audio as well.

Maybe have the ammo in the bottom right of the HUD flash red when you are almost out (1/6 of the clip left or so) and have no extra clips. I would rather not have it be an audio prompt, as sounds are more difficult to ignore purposefully than visual stuff, and visual pops out easier if you do want to notice it.

How about an auto “I need Ammo” vsay, then you and your teammates would hear it, so the nearest fieldop can supply you with ammo?

(Scarhand) #5

Problem is, the most used characters have ammo stations rather than ammo packs, and so they can’t be bothered to go and retrieve their deployed stations. They unfortunately typically only deploy for themselves, and may be left at a location inconvenient for others. People need to know they are low ammo so they can go find a station. I find it very hard to get ammo, and with the already too low ammo supply of mercs it is a problem.

Actually when you use the VSAY it puts an IFF over any deployed station and/or ammo pack nearby. So calling for ammo helps you see where you can get some.

Imo this should be automatic, without having to use the vsay, or there should at least be the option to make it automatic.

(Scarhand) #8

Agreed with this

(DB Genome editor) #9

Well if the VSAY was triggered automatically you’d have both

(Ashog) #10

Yeah, but the problem is, the vsays for medkits and ammo are broken since what seems like forever already

In Unreal Tournament, the number of Ammunition starts blinking in red in your HUD when there is only few left.
Would be a nice extra feature, but this shouldnt be on the high priority list ^^

Or like in ETQW there is a tiny barely audible beep sound when several rounds left. Which is better because you don’t have to move your eyes from the xhair

I think this is already implemented on some weapons, just not all yet.

But this is more of a reload reminder than a get more ammo reminder.

(Snotling) #14

Yeah, I would love to hear that sound when I run out of ammo.

oh yeah, true.

I’d just like some audio feedback when it happens. As I tend to not pay attention to the HUD most of the times.

(shaftz0r) #17

isnt there an audio clue when you’re close to out of a clip? like the last 10 bullets sound different?

I personally dont think everything should be made easy for everyone. you should be able to keep track of your ammo on your own. running out of it is your own responsibility. its the little things that distinguish good players. theres already a massive numbered indicator on your screen. did they remove the ammo IFF for fops above everyones heads?

(spookify) #18

This would be awesome!!!

ET had an auto switch to the pistol or knife if you switched to a weapon with no bullets…

(Violator) #19

This happens for a few weapons (Thunder’s at least) - the last few bullets get some kind of high pass filter on them. Hoping to hear this for the other large clip weapons (not Rhino’s ofc :))

What I would like to hear is something like “I’m running low on ammo”, when I am down to my last mag. I don’t want audio going off every time my mag is running low, but when I am about to run out of spare ammo for the weapon, that would be nice.
