Are replays possible with the game engine? I’d love being able to watch (and save) memorable games.
IIRC, there may have been a thread about this already, but a search for “Replay” doesn’t turn up anything relevant in the past half year.

Kinda, in theory the UE3 (the underlying engine) is capable of demo recording, unfortunaly that function has been broken for a long time (talking in general for UE3 nothing SD did wrong there).
So demo recording would need fixing before it works. Which sofar hasn’t happend.
However there was talk of bringing demorec into the game at some point since the servers are basicaly recording the games anyways for data analysis, main problem as far as I understood it was logistical problems, i.e. distribution and creating a interface for it (maybe some security stuff aswell dunno).
Maybe a good question for the next devstream wheter its still on the table or not.
meanwhile the only and recommended way is to record your matches on your own. Modern GPUs can do this with minimum performance hit. And if you lack such GPU but have a powerfull CPU it should be possible aswell.
@Gi.Am Very informative!
I have a good GPU, though OBS records DB really choppy the one time I tried it. Still, the main reason I wanted replays was so I could watch myself play from the perspective of the people I shoot.
@frankopeti It was with OBS, but this was quite a bit before the ReV patch and I didn’t look into it.

It’s more a question of how old your GPU is than the quality, hardware encoding is a relative recent feature. OBS I think needs to be specificaly told to use the GPU aswell otherwise it will use the CPU.
But anyways unless its server side demos you wouldn’t be able to see yourself from other players perspective, I think (my experience is mainly with HL1 demos not sure how they work exactly in UE3) since it only records your client informations.
OBS files, if recorded often can get quite a few hard drive space cluttered.
Replay files are normally only a few MBs big.
If you have NVidia GPU you can always try ShadowPlay. Almost zero performance hit and quality is OKish (even at 1080p @60 FPS and maximum bitrate there is still some noise in the recording but it’s definitely worth trying)
I would love to see replays. Would provide us an opportunity to improve our game. A multi player replay system would be even cooler, so we could learn how others play.
