Rent-A-Merc

(Serious Sam) #1

As it is now, mercs can only be used if they’re on the free rotation (which takes a long time to switch up), or if they have been purchased (or if they’re Skyhammer or Aura). 30 / 50k coins isn’t just something you can pull out of your bum on the drop of a hat, especially if you’re addicted to buying cases with your pocket change (like me  )

So, why not include some sort of Rent-A-Merc system that lets players try out a merc for 1 day / 10 rounds (each round is 1 obj game or each half of a stopwatch game) / 120 minutes in-game for a more manageable fee? It would let people try out a merc without having to commit a few days worth of credit earnings to buying it outright or waiting for it to come into the free rotation.

Thoughts?

There was a game that did something similar to this, but it was a 1 hour trial (play time, so if you’re not actually in a match the timer doesn’t expire). It might not be a bad idea, but personally, I rather have a training course that lets you play as any merc and practice with them and run you through a very basic tutorial of their abilities.

I’d like a training map where you can test all mercs and weapons like Planetside 2’s VR Training Area.

A training course would be cool, and I support the idea of it being added, but I would be disappointed that I couldn’t try out the merc against other real players. Big different just testing out their abilities and weapons versus actually playing a real game and playing against other real players with the merc.

Smite has this, I spent a good bit of ingame cash trying out new heroes, and it definitely made the game more fun and gave it a longer lifespan. +1

Yeah i’d like this, 1 Day trial for each merc.

Renting is a cool idea, but people tend to fall into the trap of constantly spending all their currency by renting and never being able to buy anything permanently. Or that’s what I’ve seen in other games.
