I think that DB can grow a community with longterm, persistent support.
Obviously, the population is gradually diminishing at the moment…the initial burst from releasing open beta was not going to last. But I think we do have a base of players who plan to stick around longterm, simply because the game is genuinely fun. .
Took me a while to realize BO3 is some Calladuty game rather than “best of three”.
There is nothing wrong about players migrating from other games but I wouldnt want to see this title geared towards that kind of player.
As to the current players count I think stuff will have to pick up once the game gets officially released. The initial lack of polish drove away a lot of potential long term players who might be willing to come back to it when things are looking a bit better. This will required marketing efforts and tournaments with prize money, there is no wiggeling out of the fact that you have to spend money to make money.

BO3 is however not as bad, but its still laggy with frame drops which feels like skipping scenes on a movie or listening to a CD that is too scratched.[/QUOTE]
I have stable 120 FPS in BO3 playing on High, the problem with fps drops is on your side.
BO3 is indeed a massive let down and performance is terrible (sorry but I did at least enjoy the Black Ops games). The default frame scaling is something like 0.65 which makes it look horrible, scale it to 1.0 and the frame rate literally halves. They’re using the Ghosts engine which is terrible, same on AW, the movement is clunky and the mouse is spongy, everything is gray and brown as usual and mouse sensitivity is flaky when using IS if you don’t set unlimited fps with no vsync… and worst of all they have slide on a separate key instead of sprint+crouch at the same time!!
DB needs to add the strengths of it though, good demo recording and play back support, get comp brushed up for the dudepros that like it and get more content in there.
At the risk of being shunned for my disagreement here, I’m going to be honest…I think BO3 is fun. Despite the problems it has, and despite getting pwned by better players, I’ve had more actual FUN playing BO3 in the last 3 days than I’ve had in DB…well…ever. Why? I suppose it’s personal preference…you see, BO3 let’s you actually build a class. One that caters to your play styles and strategies…in short, it gives a degree of freedom to the player that DB sorely lacks imo. I also don’t feel that it pushes experienced players away…quite the contrary. There are lots of reasons(e.g. rewards) for sticking around and leveling up and once you’re maxed on everything you still can’t just sit back because there will always be new people finding new ways to play, new class loadouts, etc. To me, those are the type of things that keep me with a game, not push me away from it. BO2 was my first entry into the series and I had over 1000 hours on it. BO3 looks like it will likely suck the same amount of life out of me, if not more. DB on the other hand…not so much.
At any rate, love it or hate it, there’s a lot the DB devs could learn from BO3.
