Remove the ****ing levels already.

I have been begging for this for a while also…

Suppose its my punishment for being a “no life fag” “lame as exploiter” or “fat kid in my mothers basement”

(Glottis-3D) #62

+1 for adding max lvl10 servers (NOT replacing max lvl5, but adding them)
also RESTRICT joining servers with much less max ELO / public rating. Just like in quakelive (you cannot join servers with mark ‘too easy’, unless invitied)

(Protekt1) #63

I am okay with levels being shown. In fact, I’d rather have them shown than not. This way I have an understanding of the quality of player, even if it isn’t very accurate. I recently played a FPS for a good 50+ hours and just got frustrated not knowing whether my teammates have played 100 hours or just their very first game.

Please don’t change this. I don’t think people understand that this is necessary to some extent, and because it cannot be replaced it should remain.

(poiuasd) #64

The only thing I find annoying about being the highest level player on a server by a wide margin is that people tend to leave because they don’t want to play against me, the worst part is that it happens even in min level 10 servers.
As for the chat abuse, there’s always the option to mute the toxic chatters since it actually works after the last update.

This.

It helps a lot to know the experience of players if you’re to try and play as a team.

(Rémy Cabresin) #66

Or you know just remove public entirely and make ‘public’ play 5v5 Unranked. Make the gap towards MM and competitive play smaller that way too. Use the ranking algorithm used for MM for Unranked so the skilled players don’t meet the newbies, most likely also results in the high levels not meeting complete ****s anymore. Might make the Ranked MM abit more populated aswell  win/win

(Szakalot) #67

yes! we absolutely need a matchmaking (puts players on a server according to a skillrange) for unranked games.

Present pubs are very toxic due to the noobs vs no-life battle, P2W cries, hacks and stacking teams etc. So many problems would be solved if we had an experience for pubbers that puts them against similarly skilled opponents

(Glottis-3D) #68

Objection, your honour!!
i am lvl40
i have 2 jobs, a lovely gf, a music progmetal band, and phd in physics ffs!
this is missinformation, that high levels do not have lifes!!

And while they’re at it make a 5v5 “Stacks Only” queue for teams, care if it queuetime takes forever right now but if MM gets more players atleast the option is already there instead of having stacks destroy solo/duos until we have a patch adding Team 5v5.

#70

Can you please stop trying to force boring 5 vs 5 gameplay on me? If anything, we need 12 vs 12 servers. More action. More explosives. More chaos. Never a stale moment of waiting your opponents to spawn.

(Rémy Cabresin) #71

I’d prefer 12vs12 public play and have comp have its own set of rules as the difference between pub and comp would be too big to justify the same rules/settings. However we already hit performance limitations at 8vs8 so goodluck with 12vs12… Forcing 5vs5 has more pro’s than cons for the game as a whole so :X

(watsyurdeal) #72

Not to mention the game is better balanced for it, 8v8 is ****ing chaos, there’s very little room to capitalize on picks, bad pushes, or weak holds. 5v5 at least punishes people harder for mistakes and encourages better team work. 8v8 just creates a mob mentality where everyone plays for themselves.

(Szakalot) #73

which is fine for pubs if thats what you want, the chaos can be great fun sometimes when you never run out of targets to shoot at, and can see stuff like 5 rhinos or 4 naders on one team.

5v5 is much more interesting and unique though, instead of a constant grindfest you have to think strategically, plus mercs don’t go insanely off balance due to a major stack of one merc type

#74

5vs5 makes me sleep and if a game makes me sleep I play another game.

(poiuasd) #75

Yea I think most people wouldn’t like being forced to play 5v5 only.

(watsyurdeal) #76

Most of the time it’s because they haven’t played it, or they aren’t being match fairly.

Playing against new players vs vets in a 5v5 is way more intense, every pick counts, and every push or hold matters.

Then play with better people

(Rémy Cabresin) #77

Best part is, by making it 5v5 and compare it to other formats like 6v6,7v7,8v8 we also get MORE games overall which in turn allows for better public player balance. if we take 3 pub servers that are 6v6 and make them 5v5 we have 6 players who can now go into a different match, taking that across all other bigger than 5v5 servers and we end up with tens(if not hundreds) more live matches so finding the right place for a specific players skill becomes easier aswell as their are more options :3

to be completely honest though, as a middle ground there is the option to make everything including competitive 6vs6 instead of 5v5. Means you have that little bit of extra room in public and make competitive slightly more crowded, and personally as a lover of a specific older game I’d really like that :DD

I can see it that happening, but I think 5v5 leads to more meaningful choices for team composition

Standard format is

2 medics, 1 engineer, 1 fragger, 1 support

With 6 players you could have another assault, so we’d basically look like this

Sawbonez, Phoneix/Sparks, Fragger, Thunder, Bushwacka/Fletcher, Skyhammer/Stoker

The supports and Engis would trade off for Recons, if they ever become useful.

Thing is, that isn’t even standard format anymore. The 1 Firesupport is only used on EV maps and is mostly replaced by a 2nd heavy in most cases Nader or on a few maps Rhino is pretty much becoming a standard now. On terminal we even see teams playing Rhino+Fragger+Nader on defense. But that has nothing to do with the format though, that’s just a simple case of the 1 merc rule breaking on itself. If teams were restricted to 1 merc across the whole map(so no merc switches per player) those more situational picks would completely vanish from the meta atleast until they get buffed to a degree where they become useful again. But ideally I think DB needs to move towards a type of draftings sytem or role based merc limits for example only allowing 1 Heavy per team at a team so you can have 1 Fragger but not a rhino and a Nader at the same time. 6vs6 would have that problem jsut as much as 5vs5 does, just slightly worse because you have that extra slot for another heavy or situational merc pick.
