I know alot of people are going to disagree but please get rid of free rotations. Having everyone run around with classes they aren’t familiar with is so annoying, first it was dead-weight snipers everywhere and now its naders spamming around every corner. Just make proxy free to all players and give the players who bought her compensation for what they paid for, then everyone will have all roles filled at all times, offensive, medic, and objective specialist. Make a one-time demo available for all mercs so there will still be a trial.
Remove free rotations
Then how are people going to try out mercs? A trial-based system? All of the free rotations I’ve been through have been hell for the first few days, but then people acclimate to the free mercs and just use only a few. Besides, I’ve found some hidden gems through the free rotation, such as Kira, who I currently main.
Also, the merc types are Fire Support (Skyhammer), Medics (Aura), Engineer (Proxy), Assault (Fragger), and Recon (Vassili).
Currently, Free Rotations are the only thing available to us as a “try before buy” system, so removal may hurt the game more than improve it.
You can’t get familiar with a class or know if you like it if you can’t use it on normal servers. So you’re right, a lot of people are definitely going to disagree as it doesn’t make any sense. Also, it’s expected in F2P games like this and to not have it would definitely be bad for obvious reasons.

There’s nothing wrong with the free rotation, at least this way nobody can say they have buyer’s remorse because the mercs are free for a bit to try out.
If I follow your logic, nobody should start playing DB then.
That doesn’t make any sense.

I disagree. The point of free rotations is to get familiar with other mercs. You aren’t going to be amazing the first time you try something new. Even if they took out rotations, the same problem would occur, everyone would be spamming skyhammer and aura.
In addition, you are able to bring in 3 mercs (in your squad) for every game. If people decide to only play 1 merc in their squad throughout the whole game without ever changing due to different situations, then its not a “free rotation” problem, but rather a communication and objective problem. Free rotation is good for bringing in and retaining new players. It keeps the more casual players coming back and being able to use different mercs every fortnight. I personally hate running into teams of 5 Vas or Bushwackers myself but ah well you’ll get used to it.
Even after 300+ hours on steam builds and around 150 on former nexon builds, I’ll most likely buy new mercs after trying them during merc rotations. Sparks is the only one I bought without trying her. Especially since they are releasing mercs that have not been available for long periods in old builds. Not to mention that they are generally rebalanced in the meantime.
And for the free engineer choice, I still think that bushwacker would be a wiser choice than proxy. That would do an all-rounder merc pool (light / medium / medium+ health pools and related speeds, shotgun / smg / assault rifle profiles). Proxy and Aura are quite close from each other in the way they are played (especially with shotguns).

For a game thats “not going to hold your hand” it sure does give plenty of handouts to everyone. If people want to play other mercs then buy them. If people want to try other mercs than trial them. Or give everyone the option to trial one merc of choice (but not the same merc consecutively) every 1 week for 1 week.

Free merc rotation is a usual deal in f2p games. No matter how you unlock your merc, whether it’s in-game or real credits, people want to have a taste, a free sample of what is available further down the grinding/money spending. That’s just all logical.
Even if I’m pretty found of the game, grinding would not be that appealing if I could not try brand new mercs 10 days after their release. I would fear to unlock something new and better stay to my usual proxy/sawbonez-aura/skyhammer pool. I don’t have that kind of grinding time or enough ammount of money to spend the equivalent of 50k credits on something that will be totally useless in my very own game experience.
And to me, 3 seems pretty fair in regard of the number of mercs that will be available later (more than 20 at least). And 3 mercs limitate same class stacks, even on low level servers. Put a single free merc of your choice every week is pretty dangerous as well. Newcomers will inevitably do the wrong choice and whine about it.
I agree to a certain degree.
My solution would be removing free-rotation just from competitive.
I sort of agree with the OP (especially compensation since I bought Proxy right before this current rotation…darnit!)…
However, I have a different suggestion that I had created a thread for. Mix up the rotation for every player so that we don’t have 10/16 of the same mercs in a match. If I get Nader, Fragger, Fletcher…my buddy gets a Proxy, Sparks, Arty…next guy gets something different.
Completely random for every player.
This rotation is still better than the previous one. We got one assault, one objective and a medic in it.
