The matchmaking is absolutely horrid and stomping/getting stomped 80%+ of the time because new players randomly get matched with veterans. Secondary objective quests got removed for far less an offense.
Remove competitive matches quests until it's playable
I posted this same thread 2 weeks ago
Its broken. They must know it. Im sure they will fix it.
The player pool is too small to make even matches that don’t take 3 hours to queue. But yea, it kinda needs to be replaced.
While that is very true, another problem is that it ranks everyone roughly the same after the 10 placing matches, then you grind your way up or down in the rankings. There shouldn’t be any grind for ranks if they’re supposed to represent skill.
Comp que is non functioning as of now. The player pool is much too small and Im not convinced the system is working anyway. Its not really a concern as is when the game isn’t complete. Theyre still getting mercs and maps out, as well as making tweaks and changes as they go.
BRO, YOU JUST MADE LITERALLY THE SAME EXACT THREAD TODAY: http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/comment/98968#Comment_98968
… T_T
This is like the 40th same topic thread I’ve read today. I think I’m going blind.

Those ranks dont mean anything. You have clans beating up on pubs and they say they are literally doing it for the rankings. God knows how many “friends” are not putting clan tags on to look like a pub and doing the same crap. I just delete the comp missions now.
I haven’t been able to get into a competitive match for weeks. Just waiting and waiting and not even getting to a point where I can see the slots filling. I think it’s completely broken at the moment. Or, no-one cares to do it. Only reason I want to is for the missions but now I’m having to cancel them.

That’s what I just said. They don’t mean anything, hence the MM can’t match correctly cause from its perspective everyone is already equally good.
Why do i keep getting baited into these threads, good lord complainers of the world just look around before you make the 500th topic of the same SUBJECT
If you wish to play more competitive matchmaking then que with your best buddies you’re likely to have a better chance of having fun

Im agreeing with you in a sense. Everyone isnt colbolt ranking or whatever. Most are gold 5 because thats where you mostly end up after 10 random shitty matches if you know what a mouse is.
I dont think there are enough people playing to make it so all top ranks only play each other. Only groups of 5 “friends” (read: a clan) should be matched up with each other as well. But again not enough people. And its a negative feedback loop. The more shitty the match ups the less people play the even MOAR shitty the match ups become.
Clan scrimmages mixed with random pubs is a horrible game design idea. Now having random clans scrimmage each other would be an amazing game design idea. But they need a bunch of clans to pull it off.
Still beta so no harm. Just fix it
Here is an idea.
Make comp mode only for clans (or groups of 5 friends). Make it so you can see how many clans are in matches at any given time so you can get an idea of how long it would be before possibly another scrimmage is available. Like on the match finding screen bring up a server browser with all the intel:
-
server pings and names
-
Players on the server (should be 10) 5 with each clan tag. Actually they should allow 6 players for each clan and 1 is a alt who can jump into their side if someone needs to leave. (this can be abused but so what?)
-
a general idea of where they are in the match so you can possibly get a rough idea of when they will be done and ready for another match.
This would be real competitive play. Hell if they wanted to go farther down the rabbit hole they could have twitch streams of all the scrims from random viewpoints. That shouldnt be too hard. That would make comp mode even more so because people could study team tactics.
Well the cobalt players were also gold once, they just grinded their way there, which is not how matchmaking is supposed to work. If you are playing like a Cobalt 1 player you should get that rank and be matched against Cobalt players from the get go. If you under perform then you get deranked instantly. Allow the MM to make big changes to your rank to fine tune your skill in the first few matches and balance out over time. So what if a gold 5 player somehow manage to get cobalt 1 after his first 10 matches by being super lucky in the match ups, to then be deranked to gold 5 where he belongs within the next 5-10 matches.

It is indeed a problem. Let’s just hope they manage to make a decent algorithm before launch, and that we’ll get enough of a surge of new players on launch to spark life into comp.
How do you propose that works then if you think playing like a cobalt 1 should get you matched with cobalt from the get go? Good aim? teamplay? KDR?
Would still need to show DB that you’re capable enough of playing a decent rank. Not the greatest example due to huge playerbase but CS:GO has it right where your first few games would be against silvers then if that’s proving too easy you’ll end up playing vs nova and master guardian players with a top rank of LEM should you win all 10 on top etc.
Though there are more cobalt players coming through now, I don’t think there’s enough to be randomly matched against them in your initial 10 placement matches.
Also, if you somehow managed to get to cobalt 1 after your 10 (I don’t know if there’s a limit for this) and lose after 5-10 matches you’d derank to cobalt 2 or even 3, not straight down to gold 5 and skip 7 ranks.
If there were more higher level players then things will slowly pan out more and it already is. MM is probably in a far better state than what it was a month or 2 back and there are still plenty of guys deranking to their supposed real rank; though I’m aware that it’s possible that they played a few games vs a mix/team and lost that way, but even then if a silver 1 loses vs cobalt 2 the wouldn’t lose that many ‘points’ as opposed to losing vs silver 4.

Of course you shouldn’t be matched against cobalt players for your first matches, I meant after the 10 first placement matches. In your very first match it could for example take your pub ranking to place you in what it thinks is an appropriate match up in comp. Say you’ve played like a gold 3 player in pubs, when you go into comp you get placed against gold 3 players in your first match. Win that one your rank goes up depending on how convincing the win was. Was it a stomp, it could increase 2-3 ranks. Lose that one, you drop a rank or two. Lose it by a stomp you drop 2-3 ranks. And if it was very equal you stay the same rank regardless if you win or lose. And it continues like that until your 10 placement matches are done and you’re roughly within your skill bracket. If that turns out to be cobalt 1, then so be it.
I personally don’t think unrankeds should be matched higher than silver and bronze. If they dominate those games, it should place them at gold 5 or gold 4. If they’re higher skilled than that, then leveling up after that shouldn’t be a problem.
It’s completely unfair to the established players to have a game ruined by one or two unrankeds who are fresh out of max level 5 servers, just for the rare occasion one is actually up to the task.
