Remember when I said matchamaking was a joke? It got worse.

Just don’t play solo, or to be honest don’t play the matchmaking at all in its current state.

The algorithms in place are simply bad and the small userbase can’t really be used as an excuse.

  1. Rank variance in matching a game is far too wide, small userbase or not but this is just a recipe for shitty games.
  2. How the ranks are granted out initially is just fucking stupid, just about anybody is currently getting gold-something as their first rank regardless of how well, or bad, they play.
Another ingredient in the recipe for shitty games.
  3. Biggest problem above all still is 5/4 man premades facing 5 randoms which shouldn’t really happen either.
Some people like their shitty games topped off with a pinch of makes no sense.

Anyway I think the splashdamage crew doesn’t even read these forums so its useless to give any input here.

If there were a 5v5 que I would.

(Ctrix) #23

Yeah, matchmaking before was better than what is right now. I stopped queuing for it.

Ranked MM should be removed until population improves. I’ve said it before but SD really need to get some marketing magic going and also get DB more involved in the competitive gaming scene. The player base from what I’ve seen in Steam stats is declining and content patches are not a middle to long term solution. Without some big turn of events I consider the outlook pretty grim for DB.

There isn’t much that Splash Damage can do to improve matchmaking. The sample from which the system picks players is simply too little.
It is pretty unfortunate that the game isn’t more popular and especially when considering that the game industry has a large audience. It has been a fact that a game will not sell well when it has a high skill-ceiling, generally.

They just should remove clan competitive before they have a clan playerbase. And when we have a clan playerbase big enough, SD should split comp in clangames and pub games with a fully-random team.
And plz no, “If you want comp, play with friends” isn’t an argument. Make comp a 5 group teams only then.

(3N1GM4) #27

I haven’t been able to play MM for a week or two, every time I try to queue, it takes 20+ minutes and then we generally give up. And it usually goes 4 - 3 - 2 man queues (in that order as people give up)

I really think fallout 4 decimated a good chunk of the comp player base given that just about 1/2 to 2/3 of all the comp players on my friends list are playing that instead of DB :frowning:

I disagree - the skill ceiling isn’t super higher than other FPS games out there; and from a knowledge ceiling perspective it’s far lower than most of the mobas out there.

Team stacking tends to hurt pub games and can turn new players (even high quality newbies) away as they never see any progress.

The biggest culprit though I think is SD have been a bit too slow on development; on top of this there has not been aggressive enough marketing campaign (which I consider the prime factor in DBs current population state). Perhaps sometime next year SD will try a “relaunch” of the game which has worked in the past for some games like FFXIII. After all DB is still technically in open beta (although I consider it retail release).

skill ceiling isnt high? its pretty damn high with high accuracy weapons and long ttk. Its not quake-level high, and its nowhere near ET level in comp, but its pretty damn high.
This.
And no it wasn’t even a 4v5, the last guy just left when the match ended, and yes he was also part of that clan He was gold 1 I think.

A 4 man group vs me and 4 randoms.
I think the worst about that shot are the pings. Really, I’m getting lag aches.

The queue has been that way before fallout4

(watsyurdeal) #32

It’s almost as if there’s too little people playing competitive.
