Remember the good old days .....

You had me all the way to this point :stuck_out_tongue:

Completely agree, one or secondary objectives that you knew would go, falling back to the next defense line, then back again, until it’s last ditch camping in the War Room of Beach…

Playing again Wolf ET since a weak cause DB is clearly boring at this moment … I really feel DB maps like toys for dummnies … Not interesting at all, boring flat level design … always the same access, same routes … no command post, not capturable spawn, nothing …

DB is BORING ! It’s a fact … look at the player retention …

Supply Depot was good :stuck_out_tongue:

This is what I miss tbh. I’m going back a good few years, and I don’t want another ET or RTCW with better graphics, but what I was hoping for in DB was a game that took me back to the old days in that way. Something that challenges me as much mentally or tactically as it does in terms of aim/physical skill.

I remember spending weeks honing a strategy for maps in ET and then refining them over months. Call it anal, but I remember times when as a clan we would spend a whole night perfecting one mortar shot as part of a strategy. Clan mates running from one spot to the next, just so we had a map of how many seconds it would take to travel from A to B. Being in a match and trying to decide if it was better for a full team /kill and sacrifice ground in order to get a stronger defence further back. Etc etc.

I even remember being on the wrong end of stuff like this … http://youtu.be/0iJBpXbtzxk?t=1m40s and you didn’t care because you appreciated the skill in doing it

and then of course there was the genius of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxEVqR2H0pw

As I say, that game’s gone, it’s had its time, but elements like strategy and skill should remain and be a part of any decent quality game. At the moment everything just feels like “rush - die - rush - die - rush - die” and hope that brute force gets you through. Landmines that go off in a group of 3 people and you don’t get one kill out of it or the guy ran too quickly past it… and who plants a landmine that can be seen anyway?! Multikills shouldn’t be easy, but they’re fun and should be attainable with things like airstrikes or rifle nades that don’t bounce off the enemy heads like coke cans.

I’ll shut up. I’m repeating what i’ve said many times now…

Winghaven Vid
Awesome vid (one of my favorite panzer vids). When I look at that awesome vid I also notice so many opens spaces and big playable areas - Radar, Goldrush bank courtyard, Dubrovnik courtyard, ice, etc…

This is some of things that DB obviously lacks. A nice fluid movement system and FLAG FORWARD SPAWNS.

I’ll throw in my own example. Beautiful shot in the Eurocup Grand Finals - it doesn’t get much better than that. These were truly the good ol’ days.

The panzer - so easy to use, but difficult to master (not many people were exceptionally good and consistent with it).

//youtu.be/zAGFn10oZsk

DB is basically ET’s soulless cousin or something, trying to be a moba when it grows up - Way too many fun and exciting features stripped away…
when Camden was long and we had loads fighting over demolishing the buffer then charge down for the chopper section then to the missile launcher.
or when waterloo had loads of passages and a upstairs hack objective that had amazing fights.
or London Bridge with its epic fight and trying to get the ev to the last bit.
or whitechapel when it had an actual chapel that was also fun to fight over.
or when we had other test maps to play on.

Remember? wtf happened.

anyone else have memories of the good old days having large fights when people used to play.
oh no why did u wright that. Now its back in my brain XD

I did not like the old maps and i don’t like the new. They all suffered from the same problem. TUNEL and Spamfest

With all the mercs and all the different weapons its going to be hard to make a consistent game. Last night it was 2 v 3 and I was Phoenix for a bit but as we were down a man I switched to Arty and was killing all 3 people which felt really good. None of the other classes can do this. TTK might actually be to long…I miss the days of if you can get 9 HS’s you can get 3 kills… Arty feels sort of like that HOWEVER with no skill… You can get 3 kills with no Headshots and less then 20 bullets… Hummmmm… Skill…

Aye…it’s hard to quantify things because a lot of what is in that vid is spawn camping and i’ll be the first to complain about that in a game. But when you’re on the receiving end of something that is also skill that you can recognise, you don’t mind so much. You might be calling him a B****** at the time, but you’ll probably be laughing and feeling some begrudgingly given respect too.

What makes things fun is moments. One-off plays…tactics where you work out a plan and see it come off…or fail. A bit like football. Nobody wants to see the ball being passed around for 90 minutes, you want the moments of genius…the defence splitting pass to a well-timed run… the goalie getting chipped from the halfway line…the perfectly executed set piece …etc etc

Videos ^^

The shoutcasters are a major exciting part in these videos :penguin:

 • amazing panzer replay folowing the missile ,loved how these replay spec are done

Did you play ET or RTCW… Do you actually know what Spawn Camping is? Nothing in these 2 videos is spawn camping…

Spawn Camping in competition is a strategy and one of the most important ones… Spawn Camping is probably thee most important thing in a Stop Watch game mode.

Right now in DB we can spawn camp but re-spawns are so short that its not really noticeable… Unless teams are stacked or there is a haxer… I have switched teams many times and switched to arty and its a piece of cake to get out. Oh yeah and medics are useless and that was a big part in RTCW and ET to revive the spawn camped ungibbed people…

Spawncamping lol XD will ignore all of your post for that post

(prophett) #53

I guess you skipped over the supply depot spawn block + panzer _

(spookify) #54

The video you posted is only 17 seconds long…

(prophett) #55

Myself and Sun_Sheng were both referring to Winghaven’s panzer video (“Out of the Way”). I figured you were referring to a different video :stuck_out_tongue:

(spookify) #56

True dhat! I also love Winghaven’s panzer video! Spawn Killing Mayham!! Woowhoo!

Only a few more days until this so called whooper of an update! Hopefully Smooth has been busy!

As Prophett said, we were talking about a different video to the last two…although I agree with you that spawn camping is a tactic in match play, one i’ve used often, and one i’ve been on the receiving end of equally often.

I don’t object to it in matches, only in pub play where if things are so unbalanced as to have caused the camp in the first place, chances are, the people that are being camped haven’t got the teamwork, comms, or experience to get out of it. In that situation I just think it’s better for everyone if the campers hold back. The team getting camped gets to enjoy the game a bit more and the server doesn’t empty. The camping team still manages to hold the area they’re defending. In short, it’s a pub game where the opponent has as much right to enjoy himself as I do. I don’t feel the need to kick him/her when they’re down.

(trickykungfu) #58

Its something else if 1 Panzer or 1 Infantry camps a spawn in a comp match. You do it to kill 1-2 so they have to wait for the next spawn. For me Spawncamping is if the hole team camp the enemy spawn over a period of many spawns.

(spookify) #59

Which happens in DB on two maps haha! To much spam and only one strong merc to fight the way out. Plus enemy re-spawns to fast… O Yeah an Medic’s are useless to not like you can medic train out…

(trickykungfu) #60

ya sad but true. I really don’t know why they don’t let us test 25/35 Spawntimes. Think it would help sooooooooooo much. Donno how often i wrote that now
