Region lock on the game?

Does Brink have any?
I’m from South East Asia, if I buy Brink from D2D and input the serial only after the 13th (where the game is fully released)…

Will the game be grayed out on Steam for me because of Region lock?
I’ve heard from a friend that Steam only region locks Valve games - like Left 4 Dead 2, where my copy couldn’t be used when I was in Canada as its a South East Asia retail copy…

Need some help on this, thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, yes.

Uh is this confirmed?
Right now I am having a friend from Canada who’s buying the game off D2D and gifting the key to me.
From what I’ve read so far, D2D is only region locking the purchase…not the game…

You CAN get banned if you are trying to bypass the region lock because it will only work if you buy the game with a “fake” IP and activate the game with a “fake” IP.
This is against Steams ToS.

But am not using a fake IP. )=
Just a friend who wants to gift it to me but he’s from a different region.

You will receive the version of the game that it was bought in.

For example, I bought L4D2 from the European region even though I am in Australia, and I have the European version of the game (No crappy censorship).

The release however may be based on your region or not. I’ve heard people say both. Logically it’d be based on the region the game was bought but you’ll have to wait and see.

I bought my friend a code from D2D.com and he lives in the UK; he used his key on Steam just fine and has the NA unlock time, as well as has already preloaded.

You’re doing the same thing, you should be fine.
