Correct me if I’m wrong, but before switching to Steam there was no regenerating health in the game which made medics more valuable, now assuming you just out gun people you can live pretty long with only worrying about bullets and there are quite a few ammo drops. I just feel like this diminishes medics. I’m not saying that medics should be only way to regen health, but maybe take a note from TF2 and make health drops around the map or something. I don’t know, the regenerating health just rubs me the wrong way.
Regenerating health
For me, the health regen rate is slow enough that just taking one glancing shot won’t matter much, and that being heavily-damaged in an intense 3v3 firefight would make a medic really matter a lot.
I’m actually kinda happy with the way it works. But then again, I’m weird that way.

I’ve been in the Alpha / Beta for over a year and a half and the days of non-regen health were before my time, so regenerating health has been around for a while…

If it wasn’t here before, I really think that this is a very good addition. It’s really not big enough to make Medics useless (you REALLY need them, even with that small regeneration thingy, that’s the first thing I figured out), and at least it prevent you from stupidly dying due to random bullets. And it allows you to regenerate at least a bit between fights if there’s no medics around. I feel like without this, no one would dare to take some risks and leave the medic to flank the other team or something.
Regenerationg health isn’t like other games, it seems to force the player out of a fight and to seek out a medic right away, but it feels as if health packs should heal almost instantly rather than jump starting the health regen system.
Last matches I ran, this regeneration mechanic you speak of is either non-existent, or too slow to effectively make medics useless. I ran around for quite a while with some serious health loss and even killed opponents who I had previously damaged (in a terrible 1v1 match I was in initially).
Health regen rate is incredibly slow. Most people who want to actually play the game and make a difference in the matches outcome won’t take damage and go hide for quite a while for their HP to come back. And I’d argue that HP regen makes medics even more valuable because it’s extremely hard to get competent people down who use both to their advantage.
TF2’s pickup system can be abused so easily and you find people always racing back to those spots non-stop rather than playing the game.
