Regarding TTK and speed

I’ll keep it simple, are you guys satisfied with the Time to Kill and the Speed of the game?

How fast people move while strafing, and how do you feel about sprinting and it’s place in Dirty Bomb?

Didn’t we have a poll on this one not so long ago and the majority was satisfied?.. … … …

I’d definitely love the game being a bit faster movement wise. Some quake fan remnants I suppose.

But servers would require some work for that though, it’s sometimes impossible to have a nice hit-reg on a sparks/aura crossing the street full speed in front of you, even with the bad aiming factor considered. Ya know, that weird questioning “Why did it require so much time to kill this dude ?”

Just trying to get a general idea on both factors, damage output and mobility, aim is purely up to the player.

Did you ever play early Urban Terror or Action Quake (any of them)? Personally, I would LOVE that. But, like Quake in general, that kind of gameplay speed isn’t for everyone. I’m OK with DB in both speed and TTK personally as I feel that both are higher than what most current popular FPS games have but not enough to severely alienate some players.

Oh, yes I did, yes I did… I may have played more on Urban Terror than any other quake 3 version.
I totally agree with you on that one. But just a slight bit, like 5% more, that could be interesting.

Or, instead, make the gaps between light/medium/heavy mercs more important. Some merc like proxy needs to overpass the speed/health relationship (which has been totally forgotten in recent updates by the way if you look at vassili for example) to be viable against other same class mercs anyway.

Nevertheless, unless someone pulls out a graphically nice-and-readable perfection like id did with Q3 (and everything heavily reliant on it…), there’ll be no room for such fast paced shooter anymore.

I’m sort of okay with the TTK on most weapons for gunplay, but I’ll never be okay with Vassili and airstrikes.

Anything’s fine as long as I get a chance to fire back. Things that I can’t see coming or cannot really outplay bum me out. Though I understand they fill a niche in the game, just not happy with them. Opinions, man.

It’s just weird that I can’t remember airstrikes in Enemy Territory being as much of a problem as they are in DB.

Seriously? Airstrikes in DB don’t bother me at all. While in ET they were overused - especially when you got 4 stars FldOps, you could spam them every 20 seconds and there were spots when you could leave the marker unseen, so the enemies were killed without knowing what’s going on. You even have a line on the ground in DB, telling you how airstrike is oriented.

Because many servers put airstrikes on a global timer or had Panzers locked down or were populated by people who knew and abided by FF systems. Which wouldn’t be possible in DB in pubs due to this being a game that sells different characters and their abilities. Telling people they suddenly can’t use their Kira laser because some other guy just used it (badly) would make them pretty angry. Me, as a rational person, would understand and accept this. But many people aren’t rational nor do they care and they want to use their abilities whenever they want to.

Edit : Amerika just said the same

I guess it’s been too long. I’ve played in the Nations Cup, so I’d like to think I was a hardcore Wolf:ET player, yet there are so many things I remember differently than it actually was.

With airstrikes I could have sworn that the direction of the airstrike was pointed at the nearest enemy in the last second before it came in, which I remember you’re able to avoid if you stay on the move and not too close to the marker. Even that very strong memory turns out to be a lie as I’m looking things up now.

Time to call a doctor and ask to be tested for Alzheimer’s.

There’s a reason I’m playing this game and not counter strike
Fuck Counter Strike. There’s a reason I’m not playing Overwatch, and I got into the beta at the very start.

Oh believe me I agree, but I feel like there’s still remnants of mil sim in this game, the speed seems a little slow compared to Quake and Unreal, then of course there’s sprinting, which seems out of place when we could just have crazy fast movement.

(Ctrix) #15

Well its sort of a moot point. The game is balanced around the way the movement works currently. If everyone would move at sprint speed all the time the maps would turn out way too small to be enjoyable. Also it would become hard to kill people before they run away. There’s a reason why Unreal Tournament has a focus on high damage weapons.

(Amerika) #16

Remnants of a “mil sim”, IMO, is just fine. This is kind of a genre all it’s own. One that is occupied by games like wolf/ET, urban terror, soldier of fortune 2 and I’m sure many others. Now DB is a part of that. Games that relied more on solid aim and had some depth to movement mechanics without going over the top like an arena shooter. It makes the game more palatable to a wider audience…especially an audience that was mostly raised with FPS = you play with a controller…as sad as that is to say.

(HunterAssassin5) #17

Personally I have no issue. Its long enough that you’re not dead the moment you start taking damage, you can still escape, especially with the movement speed, you can’t just shift+w out of it, but short enough if you got a good flank in or hit a bunch of head shots, your target is going down.
