Regarding Ranked, should melee only decide who gets to go on Defense/Offense first?

Since attacking first gives you the opportunity to control how long your game is going to be, seems like a neat way to put that control somewhere other than RNG.

As long as everbody get to play Skyhammer with beckhill (or something like that) it’s ok.
Some mercs are clearly better for melee than others, like Sawbonez (who can heal himself).

The team with highest ELO should attack first to avoid full holds and save time.

It’s super common in a lot of league/tournament rules for Counter-Strike and a few other games. Most people see it as being better than a coin flip as it gives teams some actual influence how some important factors are determined. Also, it’s fun as hell to participate in and to watch.

I’ve participated in a number of them.

Brought this up in dev stream today (crediting you Watsyurdeal :wink: ) and it actually got picked up from all the usual Twitch spam. Although nothing definite was said of it, least they read it out loud and said it was interesting. So it is out there. Hopefully catches some wind.

E: Just rewatched the part. Shoe probably passes the idea to Smooth, or if not we can always bring the same thing up in next SD stream, encouraged by him.

I always wished the team with the highest combined level would attack first, as long as we are up for arbitrary reasons to determine who goes first.

Could be definitely doable, or the ELO suggestion @Kaur threw. Anything else than RNG flip-a-coin that is now taking place. Melee-only round could although still be most probably won by the most competent team, a.k.a higher ELO and/or levels. Melee just brings some well needed goofery into otherwise tad bit humourless enviroment I feel.

I think it would be cool if it was melee to decided who was attacking. This sounds like an awesome idea and i would love to have this :smiley:

Are you honestly stupid? Melee only is a mess. You’re about as likely as dying to luck as you are to anything else. Even if you could get a perfect order of skill = time alive (don’t make me fucking laugh), how is this an improvement over any method that attempts to use MMR if that method were to work perfectly?

It’s a giant waste of time is what it is. It’s a fucking stupid idea, and you should feel stupid for suggesting it unironically.

And yet a number of people here like it, and yet it’s been used before in other games to decide who goes first. So…yea

It’s like the difference between a coin toss or Rock, Paper, Scissors. Some people are ok with a coin toss but others may prefer a little less luck and a lot more engagement or action. Hence why the whole melee to decide who attacks first has been used before in other games.

If you don’t like it, then offer up your own solution instead of shooting it down or reverting to insults.

Because honestly that’s not remotely decent discussion, it’s just trying to make the other person look bad for even trying to suggest something in, surprise, a forum.
