Regarding etmaps.de a site for all ET maps

Ok, so I am noticing a copy of my map project slipped out, I mean a total developement map that is a) totally unsuitable for widescale usage b) has REALLY bad geometry and overlapping etc etc

I dont know german but if anyone here is willing to make formal contact with them to straighten out some of the maps provided on their site, I think it would be alot better for the community. Even an english mirror would help too.

My fear is this, a development copy of a map gets released and has many bugs then people start bitching, then someone else decompiles and fixes the parts that are bugged and perhaps label it their own.

I am totally fine with open source and handing out copies of the source map if asked my fear is lack of communication impatience and this going somewhere bad without mappers helping them out with their site and making it best for mappers and players.

Anyhow, if anyone knows german and would help making a formal line of communication I think thats a good start.

ok sweet, I really have no problem with the site, hell I think its a great site. Just a tad concerned if developement maps get leaked. I passed that map to ONE person and boom up on their site within a week. At least I know the source of the leak. I dont even mind people playing an alpha of mine as long as I have it semi up to snuff for the player.

my first version had HUGE vis problems etc being its my first map and I ended up relaying out the entire thing from scratch. But hey sometimes we have to take the proper path and long route to making a good map

they will do that anyway

Is it right, “li_hardcore_tj” and “area51_a3” are the same maps ?
I have delet the Trickj. and add Area51.

If a map is leaked, it is your own debt. (Your HP)

You might not know the leak… I had a closed alpha 1 test of my map – we advertised it as a closed test, etc… There are a few mapping sites or individuals (not sure which) that troll ftp servers and grab unfinsihed maps. They posted my map with the readme that said “do not distribute” etc, etc… They claimed it was a ‘mistake’ – I still feel otherwise (and I see they are at it again  )

Use ASE or similar to check if your map is on a server. Contact the admin and explain the situation – a vast majority of admins will immediately remove a leaked map.

Well due to the fact its a trickjump map and there hasn’t been a really decent one released in a while, I would rather people have a semi playable alpha. Plus I can hop on servers, show how its done and get feedback on more bugs. Amazingly I found out that high pings affect some of the jumps, IE you take damage on certain jumps, something totally unexpected. So even if it was leaked I recieved some valuable feedback and the general response seems to have helped push me to finishing the developement even faster. Big thanks to Loffy who has offered some help after playing my map. So in the end it helped get some notice and alot of players are willing to work with the bugs as long as I promise to move along in fixing them
