Sorry, I should have clarified. I was specifically referring to this statement:
What I should have said was: This game is perfectly playable if you meet the minimum system requirements and have a nVidia card.
My bad.

Right ok. The thing that has annoyed a lot of us ATI owners is both the minimum and recommended specs state ATI cards which most of us well exceed.
Minimum
NVIDIA 8800GS / ATI Radeon HD 2900 Pro
Recommended
Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 / ATI Radeon HD 5850
I would love to know what frame rate Splash Damage got outdoors on a Radeon 2900 Pro. But oh well, lessons learnt… and moving on
tbh it’s ridicolous i bought a game on the stores and i had to install steam and its pathetic i have to join it to my account so if i want a refound or i want to sell it, i cannot.
incredible…
Those that are having issues almost all have lower end CPU’s, not that the CPU wasn’t bad ass when it was new but just dosn’t cut the mustard on a CPU intensive game. As far as Brink goes my CPU will sit around 85% all the time while I play.
For the number of ATI users having issues there have also been nearly the same number of NVidida users having problems.
And the actual % of players having the issues versus the number of Peek players in a day is around 10%-11%.(rough estimate of posters in the ATI issue threads vs peek player count yesterday 1188. JJ is acurate in the fact that there are far to many players using ATI that play everyday.
I personally like Intel, NVidia, AMD, and ATI. It is just that when it comes time to buy parts for my PC I get a better price for the performance out of ATI/AMD(which is slowly becoming more of a price battle compared to previous years). I run a AMD Phenom II x4 955 OC’d to 3.8 with an ATI 5850 OC’d to 800/1200 with 1333MHz Ripjaws RAM OC’d to 1600MHz. I also fine tune my windows installs for gaming and do all my interneting on my laptop. So my PC in particular is built to game. and should last me another year or so(give or take a few months). And then I will spend around $400-$500 on parts to bump it up again. Which is fine by me as I would rather spend the cash on my PC rather then play FPS games on a console.
As for Steam it is by far the best digital distribution system on the net and many companies have tried to mimic it, with little to no success. I will usually by any game on sale that floats my boat, and unless I can get it straight from EA store(BF series, for that matter EA Store has changed 3 times in the last 5 years or so trying to compete with Steam). I buy everything on Steam and rarely if ever by a boxed copy of a game. Been using Steam since it was a twinkle in Valve’s eye, and I will never change. I have never personally had to return a game thru Steam, but I know several game friends who have and one in particular was so displeased with Steam that he got almost all his games on his account refunded to him in cash to purchase them outside of Steam, so saying you wont ever get a refund from Steam is just FALSE. Some people my not get the refund that they fell is due to them, but there are many of people who do get a refund.
Well and some of us don´t care at all if its nvidia or ati like me, but usually if you have a nvidia card and an ati card with exactly same specs and perfomance the atis ones are usually cheaper thats why we buy atis. And ati for me runs great in all games cept for brink.
l4d2 130 fps / tf2 120 / black ops 70 / bc2 50 fps / brink 20-30 fps D :
Hear hear.
Even ****** crysis1 gives me more fps than this game.
What the hell were the game creators thinking?!
I’ve seen plenty of players who can’t play the game with i5 and i7. Personally I have an overclocked core duo, but also tried on my wife’s overclocked quad. Fact is, my cpu usage does not decrease if I put the game at the highest resolution, so it is clearly an issue with the game as opposed to it just needing more cpu power.
For the number of ATI users having issues there have also been nearly the same number of NVidida users having problems.
I’m not sure, but I do know my wife’s computer can play the game much better with a 9800 gtx compared to my 4870 (which I tried in her pc also).

I have no idea how you came up with those estimates? Everyone I know has (had, they don’t play the game anymore) problems, I would give my own estimate that the figures are the other way round - more ATI players have fps issues than those who don’t.

I didn’t say you will never get a refund from Steam in general, but I don’t believe you will get a Brink refund. The first few people may have, but Valve obviously clamped down on it before the floodgates opened. 1000 peak players? There must be a large number of refund requests.

buy new cpu+gpu!
but even that doesn’t help brink!
OP, I have the same GPU as you and a much slower CPU and the game is perfectly playable for me. I do get pretty low FPS in some areas ( 40 FPS outside on Sec Tower ) but for the most part it’s OK. Set everything to lowest detail and type “r_shadows 0” in console.
