Referencing external lightmaps from 2 bsps

Is it possible to use q3map2 to write out external lightmap files for a bsp and then get another bsp (one in which the architecture is identical but entities are different) to reference those lightmaps too? I want to do this so that if I include 2 versions of a map in my pk3, I won’t be supplying the lightmap data twice.
