Reference Needed

(LaggingTom) #1

I’m terrible at working with sizes, so I’m making a reference chart. When it gets done, it’ll be available to all until by bandwith runs out :stuck_out_tongue:

Everything is based on the default blocksize (1024) and grid8, so now, the single question I need answered is:

What size rectangle (x,y,z) is the smallest that can fit a standing character?

(MadJack) #2

Crouching it’s 56 high. Standing it’s 64. Prone I’d say 48 though that last one is a pure guess.

Grid 8? I use 4 as much as I can. As a rule of thumb I rarely go higher or lower but sometimes you have to break the rules to make everything fit.

All I need is grid8, because then I can just count the boxes for the rest!

But what about the width and length values? I have the height, but just in case someone wants a tiny room?

Nice idea Tom. I definitely find one of the trickiest/most annoying things is trying to get the scale of stuff right. No matter how much I compile and run around, it’s still hard to know if it all is the right size, or if it’s oddly scaled. Hard to trust me own judgement on these things…

I once made a tower (ealry days… i promise) that came up to my knees. \o/

These are some of my measurements, found by trial-n-error:

What Height Width Depth Comment
=============================    ======    ======    ======    =======
Radiant player box 72 36 36
Damage radius of dynamite 400 units in radius

Minimum sizes:
Opening - For walk 80 40
Opening - Proned 56 40
Opening - Crawling 48 40
Opening - Spectator fly-through 96 40

Natural sizes:
Door opening 96 56 4 When the door is open remember to subtract its thickness from the opening size.

Thanks Chruker! Exactly what I needed. This one’s going in the bookmarks
