red dot and colorblindness

(kikamaru) #1

Hi there

(first, sorry for my bad english…)

I’m colorblind, and it’s difficult for me to use the red dot sights because of its color
Is it possible to change the color ?
Or maybe in a future patch ?

(DarkangelUK) #2

Yeah I have the same issue, but well I just put up with it really.

Even in real life, most red dots com in various colors for different reasons. Mostly time of use, visibility, and color-blindness. Even just allowing the common 3 colors as a choice would be nice (red, green, amber)

Try making a dot with non permanent marker on ur screen if u want. I know its not a good solution but it might help for now and u can choose any colour u need.
U r doing it at ur own risk, dont blame me if u damage ur monitor permanently.

No need to use a marker, there a programs that color a single pixel in the dead center of your screen, or just use a piece of tape.

Just wondering but what colour is the red dot sight to colour blind people?

(Shadowcat) #7

Its still the same, but they become hard to tell apart from other colors. So for something like a red dot sight, the dot will blend in with the background at times.

My brother for instance has trouble telling blue purple and red apart. Red and blue are different colors, but anything in the middle is difficult to tell apart. We figured out he was colorblind when he was using a light-bright as a kid; all the blue and purple pegs were mixed together.

Yes, I thought the same. A choice among 3 colors would help a lot.

As Shadowcat sayed, the red dot blends in with the background sometimes. A light blue or fluo green or yellow is easier for colorblinds to see, I think.

While i dont think im colourblind, I still lose track of the white crosshair sometimes. The pink dot would help…

Is an external dot tool considered cheating by VAC?

(Shadowcat) #10

I doubt it, but I’m not even sure that VAC would be able to detect it, since it doesn’t affect the game at all, its just layers an image in front of it.

Like a wallhack.

VAC will most likely ban you for using any uncertified program which changes your game in any way. That includes tools which draw a dot on your screen!

No, a wallhack has to go in and get the information from the client. That is how it is able to know where people are, and then it layers those sprites in front.

The ‘dot’ program has nothing to do with the game client, it just turns a single pixel a different color and forces your computer to keep it on top. It will no more get flagged than if you were running your command prompt and had it always on top.

No they don’t. They pretty much come in red only. I think it has a lot to do with the LED/laser, where red wavelengths are easier to produce and consume less power. Trijicon has a fiberoptic “red dot” sight that comes in amber only.

Other than that, I can’t think of anything but red dot red dot sights. It certainly isn’t most, Aimpoint, EOTech and C-More only have red. Care to name a few?

Trijicon scopes are primarily based on fiber-optics, so most of their designs have at least 2 color options if not three.

Do a search for Green dot sights or dual color sights on google, and you will find any number of companies offering them though.

C-More seems an odd company to list when it comes to options though, they really only have the one red dot sight with a few mounting options. A good sight to be sure, just not much for offering options.

(Smokeskin) #15

We aren’t talking about scopes, we’re talking about dot sights. Trijicon’s dot sights with a battery-powered LED only come in red. Those without batteries are all amber fiberoptics. No color choice in the same type.

Oh I thought you were talking about actual dot sights for firearms, not for airsoft , because I can’t find anything else. Ok, I guess there a few low end brands that could actually go on a firearm, but something that could actually go on a military weapon? Please show me a link. Maybe you can find one.

If you can find a brand widespread enough to qualify your statement that “most red dots come in various colors”, I’d be very impressed. They pretty much come in red only, with the exception of Trijicon’s amber fiberoptic sights.

It depends how the tool works, if it hooks into the game then it is a VAC bannable offense, whereas if it was to overlay the game BUT not hook into the game then it’s not VAC bannable.

(Rally) #17

It has nothing to do with the game. Its more or less just opening a picture, and keeping it always on top.
