Recording Software for Voice Overs

(Mean Mr. Mustard) #1

I don’t know if this is a good place to post this (so if it’s not, forgive me…)

I’d like to add some custom voice overs to my map. I’ve figured out how to do so in the script, etc. But I’d like some recommendations on some good .wav file recorders. Does any one have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

goldwave
can’t go wrong…
it has a pile of effects, and it also can eliminate background noise.

EDIT: er… actually im not to shure if it records… but it’s great for post production… clean up and modify a wav file anyway u can think of.

EDIT: the website is www.goldwave.com always good to have it around.

cool edit is pretty good
check also this linkfor a bunch of other ones with free demos etc.

cool edit pro is the sound industry standard pretty much, if not its comprable.

Ask Sonic what he uses. He does sound editing/creation for a profession.

If you plan to do that good, go for SoundForge or WaveLab on the PC and Peak or Spark on the MAC. Adding effects, EQ’ing and compressing/limiting the voiceover is essential. If you don’t know what I’m talking about it will become hard making those things sound really good. But there’s several tutorials on those topics out there somewhere I think, gotta ask google…

I use a variety of tools but mostly Nuendo ( http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/media_production ) for music and FX recording and multitracking. For all the quick and dirty loops, EQ’ing, Noise Reduction and editing I use Cool Edit Pro. It’s awesome.

If you do find a free editor a few things to look for is the ability to EQ…even a 10 band graphic EQ can help shape the tone, One that has some FX like reverb, delays and such and for me most important is is format changing abilities…being able to take a 16 bit wave and get it down to the 22k mono that the game engine knows and loves so much.

If you’re doing voice overs for ET I have a template made with the walkie talkie sounds in the begginning and end with static in the middle you can have. Also let me know if you need quick advice on how to make AM Radio or Walkie Talkie type tones with the voice.

Also I’m a moderator at www.audioforums.com where theres tens of thousands of users who can help. Cheers.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Sonix - the template for the ET voice overs would be much appreciated!! And any advice on the AM Radio/Walkie-talkie type tones would be helpful.
