Reconsider Female Characters!

(tokamak) #21

You’re right.

However, females can chose body types similarly to guys. Or are you saying those body-types should all be 30% lower as well? Would be a bit weird considering the body-type balance in brink probably won’t reflect the balance in real life either.

(SPC. Angseth) #22

So basically…your saying that women are less capable than men?

While I understand there are differences between both genders to some extent, were talking about a game.

Things like this were never present in games like Saints Row, World of WarCraft, Unreal Tournament or others with female characters, so I really don’t see why it would be an issue. If this is a civil war in some urban futuristic city why are all the men fighting but not the women? from a story perspective I don’t think that makes much sense.

I really hope Splash Damage reconsiders this, its their decision in the end and most likely my post won’t change that, but I tried at least.

There were differences between sexes in UT, females were more agile and males had more stamina. Especially with Brink’s smart system you can get a similar trade-off but this would only water down the three body-types you can select now.

Anyway. If I had to chose between female characters or an extra map or two, I would definitely pick the extra maps.

Are we talking about the same UT? I played all up to UT3 (except those on the original Xbox) and they all have female models without any difference on terms of gameplay mechanics.

(.Chris.) #25

It would break immersion and realism if women were treated as equals to the male characters in Brink, I know the game is meant to be in the future but come on.

(tokamak) #26

You’re right. I’ve looked it up. Damn nine year olds with their myths.

(stealth6) #27

-deleted- on second thought don’t want to sound offensive

it would ruin the gameplay imo

(tokamak) #28

Now I think of it, I only used female characters in Unreal Tournament games, Rylisa was my favourite:

(SPC. Angseth) #29

Lauren from UT is my favorite, and look, shes wearing armor, doesnt mean she has to be some she hulk to do so, which some people always bring up when there is mention of a female in armor.

Females in shooters go perfectly well, I wish Brink was the exception and included them too seeing as the game could potentially be very popular and one of the hits of 2010.

(tokamak) #30

There’s enough girls playing Gears of War and other games that don’t feature females. Likewise guys don’t have problems playing Tomb Raider or Oni. I doubt it will impact sales much.

(SPC. Angseth) #31

I never said that nor do I think that plays a big role in sales either.

Im a guy and I like playing female characters and usually whenever the chance presents itself I do.

Just thought making this thread could give the developers some insight that some people want this.

(tokamak) #32

Agreed they would be a nice addition, but the lack of them isn’t really that grating is it? When you see a game full of guys shooting each other’s limbs off I’m not thinking “hey but where are are girls?”.

(ThunderWank) #33

Why do you feel the need to decapitate pretty ladies? Got some kind of sick fetish we should all know about  Regardless I don’t see the need for women unless the game contains a sandwich making class or nude mod. All joking aside there should be the odd women throughout the story fo erm… Reproduction values  cwutididthar?

(DarkangelUK) #34

I think female models come under the “nice to have” category, but certainly not important enough to detract from development of more important stuff.

absolutely, women are genetically lower in strenth and speed, pelvic muscle structure is different, chest capacity (lung size) is limited, people say they want female models to more accurately represent half the population but won’t accept the consequences. While a small body type trades strength for speed, the equivalent female small would be 20% slower and carry 20% less equipment and have 20% less “hit points”

sounds more to me like you just want your character to have tits

one idea I’d go for is have a voice choice for the Security with the full face helmet, instant gender change and SD is already doing multiple vocalizations

Maybe Im misinformed about character specifics in the game, I don’t know if there are stats or not considering there are different classes so I could see what you mean. If we really followed conventional rules of real life, then pretty much everything in video games should be thrown out the window as it is not real either.

However, I like playing female characters because I just enjoy it its something different, pretty much 90% of all video games have a male protagonist or characters.

I don’t see why you have to resort to simplify things by stating what I underlined, thats so typical of normal men, but not me.

(Nail) #37

well, as that’s the only differentiating physical attribute the developers are likely to show, and therefore the only way to judge gender of your character, it was a logical assumption

btw, thanks, you may be the only member here who thinks I’m normal

(ThunderWank) #38

I’m just trying to figure out your logic…? You want to play as a femal as it’s something different. Well due to the inclusion of character customisation you can play as something different when ever you wish. The only reasons I can think of a man to wanting to play as a woman is either the sexual aspect Nail mentioned or some sort of Castration Anxiety or Oedipus Complex and Occams razor dictates it’s the sooner not the later. Just admit your a pervert like the rest of us

(Rumble) #39

Female characters would be a nice add, as DLC why not. Even if their stats are lower, it would give more challenge to play with. But that’s not a big deal if there’s none.
But people thinking females characters don’t have their place in this game should remember it was said that there are female protagonists in the story of Brink.

(tokamak) #40

That´s basically how Raven shield solved it.

That way you can also start ragging on players who have a different skin colour than their character… Some people just like to be someone else in a game. They’ve been their selves for their whole life.

Anyway, the main valid point against female characters is that it’s not adding actual content and therefore a waste of resources.
