Reason for delay

(0xT1) #1

@PR
So, delays happen, no avoiding it.
However, would it be possible to know why this particular delay happened? One day we’re expecting the game in a couple of months and the next its almost a year away with no previous heads up or hints.

that’s cause bethesda has a tendency of making up dates, even before the game was even finished. Remember ETQW? When the release date was “when it’s done”?

For this game, I have never heard of a release date called “when it’s done” that id software games and 3d realms games usually use. Blizzard has the “As soon as we are finished with the game, we will let you know”.

So really, a date from bethesda really means “when it’s done”. The only way to find out the actual release date, is to get the “gold” status from SD, and a release date, when the game hasn’t upgraded to beta yet, always means “when it’s done”.

(Maawdawg) #3

If that is the case then they should have been saying “when it is done” for the last half year, instead of Fall 2010. If you do set a window and miss it then people are going to be disappointed and upset. It would be nice to know the reason for a (probable) 6 month date push when as little as a week ago they were still being quoted as Fall 2010 in interviews.

i guess there’s no point in releasing a game within the same time frame as halo 3, crysis 2, next call of duty, m$ kinect, $ony move, etc

(Maawdawg) #5

If the game is good it shouldn’t matter. Borderlands landed right in the middle of the FPS gauntlet last year and did very well.

(Reanimator) #6

I think the reason they haven’t replied much on the forums is because they are trying to get the game to us as quickly as possible.

(tokamak) #7

True dat, let’s just speculate! Who can think up the most awkward reason for the delay?

(Apples) #8

They suddenly realised that brink was slow, so they take some month to adjust to the uber speedy game they’ll give us!

(Hansel) #9

Good games are always released later than expected. It seems to happen to every game that I’m looking forward to. I think it’s great that they get the game right when they still have a chance to do that, trying to fix the game after the release can be a messy ordeal, and serious problems can alienate players really fast (see Tribes 2).

(DoubleDigit) #10

They should rename it Duke Nukem, as far as I’m concerned I lost interest in this a long time ago.

(Joe999) #11

yes, that explains why you post here …

(DoubleDigit) #12

Posting here only tells I’m at work, nothing more. Hehe, What’s this game about again? Seems like the Paul is more concerned about earning stupid prizes than completing the game.
And another issue i can’t stomach, having a guy who only worked on console titles to be the game designer… very bad taste in my mouth, I will be very surprised if the PC version will be half as good as ETQW.

(Zarlor) #13

Paul is a great guy. I’ve seen probably every interview with him and his enthusiasm for the game never wanes. If I were a random gamer and only saw one of the videos, then I think I’d get some good info about what the game has to offer and leave with a favorable impression.

I think its because they are no longer considering community feedback, on Crossfire they stated that the reason they have stopped replying is because they have stopped considering community feedback at this stage.

From Rahdo

Rahdo on 18/04/10, 07:32:59 GMT Edited

yeah, we’ve actually finished the community q&a (a lot of great questions in there, and we tried to answer them as best we could), but it hasn’t shown up yet. i think it’s waiting on approval from bethesda (we gave a lot of new info in the answers)

Can see for yourself right at the bottom of the page.

Not sure if he meant all community feedback or just Crossfire, a lot of tough questions on Crossfire though which was a good thing. Thats the thing, my opinions are not just based on what is said here but what is also discussed on Crossfire.

(RR2DO2) #15

What he means is that a community Q&A has been completed (but not yet released at that point in time), not that we have finished listening to the community.

(badman) #16

We always consider community feedback - be it before or after release. As Arnout pointed out, Rahdo’s comment was referring to a specific interview (the Brinkish Q&A, to be exact).

(Qhullu) #17

cool, can you give an actual example of a change in the game design of Brink that came about specifically because of community feedback.

or is it more “we find the things you peasants say hilariously stupid so reading it is very entertaining lol” kind of listening

(Wolfmeister) #18

Since it seems lots of Devs are here, why was Brink delayed, could you please explain that?

(TheNewMath) #19

Don’t know why it was delayed, again and for such a long time but it completely killed all my excitement and hype for this game for now, and this was my most anticipated thing of E3. I have no desire to even watch the new gameplay vids, I doubt they are showing something that would reignite the excitement. Especially with such a way this was handled, biggest news of Brink’s E3 - a huge delay. And not a single mentioning of why is that, it’s as if in all the interviews the guys were acting as if this had always been the designated release date.
Please, try your best to not announce a date if you aren’t at least 90% sure you’ll be able to make it. Take the Blizzard approach and say “When it’s done”. I think you’ve been developing games for so long that you have forgotten how huge of a buzz kill such news can bring to your fans. I can honestly say this ruined E3 for me.
On the other hand I am glad that you have the freedom to take such a “bad” step in order to make the game better and not rush it. Just take it easy on us, your poor fans, would you please? A decent explanation would certainly ease our pain a little bit (not that you owe us any explanations).

The game was so awesome that Sony, MS, Activision and EA payed SD and Bethesda a few millions each to delay the game so their shooters can sell well at least for a few months before Brink delivers the goods on both casual and competitive hardcore gamers alike.

The reason the game was delayed: Game development is hard.
