really dumb questions

(JP) #1

Hi all,

ok I am very very very new to mapping but seeing as I work hard whilst at work? I though I would have a play with Radiant… I am following some tutorials but my setup does not seem to be working. When I am trying to fill something in with textures all I see in the cam window is “shader image missing”.

I am using the beta version 1.3.8

Any help is good

I assume you are using the GTK editor?
When you installed the editor, what games did you set it up with?

The editor only works with games installed on your system. That is where the editor get all the resources from like textures, models, etc. Without a game installed the editor will not be much use. For someone new to editing, not being able to see the textures and run your map in game will make the process of map creation difficult.

Btw, the editing tools for ET are not out atm, but you could create test maps for RTCW or Q3. The basic editor functions are the same, like creating brushes, lights, models, etc.

all I have installed here is ET (as I am at work) what else would I need to enable me to play about with it and check maps?

GTK to my knowlege not be able to search through the pk3 files for the textures.

You will need RTCW installed and tell GTK where its installed - GTK will then pull out all textures used by RTCW.

Or just wait for ET tool - WHEN!??? :(:frowning:

Does GTK need Quake3 to work? I mean I have RtCW installed but not Q3 and GTK doesn’t work.

(RR2DO2) #6

Radiant can handle pk3 files just fine

(Danyboy) #7

ok so on installation you told GTK where RTCW was installed? yes?

if you have then when you click on textures file menu you should get list of all texture subsets -ie. miltary_door, military_wall etc…

if you dont have that list then GTK can’t find your pk3 files.

I would suggest using the 1.2.13 ‘stable’ version, rather than the beta. Installed correctly, it should require only one of the supported games (e.g. quake3 or RTCW or SOF2 or Jk2, or any combination of those)

If you ONLY have ET, you will have to do some fiddling to it get it to work.

They way I understand it, JP doesnt have RTCW installed - just ET. I am not sure, but I doubt the RTCW textures will show up in Radiant if you dont have RTCW. But I could be wrong.

JP, what you could do, is to unzip the pakfile, and add the textures.

Radiant has no trouble using textures which are inside a .pk3
