OK any GOOD tutorials that would explain in an organized way instead of mumble jumble. Tell me the best tutorial you know. Also when I am trying to make for example another “model” or whatever you call it a wall precisely. By dragging it just resizes the first “model” I made. And that messes everything up :(. Why is mapping SUCH annoying thing? No place to start for newbs espescially the SCRIPTING part. Tell me if you know any scripting tutorials. Well looks like you just have TO KNOW it. No documenations et.c.
REAL newb here (not one of those who you always meet)
Ifurita has written some very good tutorials for beginners (including a scripting tutorial):
http://www.planetwolfenstein.com/4newbies/mapping.htm
Then there is sock’s enhanced Level Designers Reference:

Some tutorials:

You should also read the sticky threads of this forum.
Thank you. I got a little bit forward with the surface tutorial. But how the hell do I select the floor so I can duplicate it? Thank you tutorial so much for explaining how do do it. And i realized that i had to click on “brush cleanup” whenever im done and thanks for that too tutorial.
[sarcasm]He sounds like he’s enjoying mapping already[/sarcasm]
The simland link has no link back to it’s parent page. So just remove the /ldr_1 for more tutorials from that site.

There are many, so just ask for what you need as you go I guess.
Edit - Go here for learning how to use radiant: http://www.planetwolfenstein.com/4newbies/radiant101.htm
Hmm but how do i select a brush (yeah i know left click)?
when i click there’s no reaction. HELP! Yep im supposed to copy the flooor (xy position) and make a roof.
Edit ok this is really a pain in the ass! So just answer my question instead of telling “read this 200 page tutorial”.
Brief of my problems (just answer these directly please, you just mess me up and make my already bad day even worse
:():
-
When i make the so called “brush” and then i am making another brush the only way i seem to have to do for the program not to start resizing the brush i jsut done to press “brush cleanup”.
-
I cant select the brushes ive “done”.
-
FFS, honestly. These mapping programs should’ve been made more flexible in the GUI Part. Since it’s really annoying for a newb to start out!!!
Sorry but please i need an answer or ill explode!
:banghead:
Patience is a virtue, try it if you can…never in a woman, seldom in a man.

press escape

shift + left mouse button

go to the help menu… read EVERYTHING and then come back (this includes the shortcut list at the very end)… mapping is time consuming… and so is the learning process… if you do not have the patience try something else, e.g. throwing dinnerware out of the window

Just go to that radiant learning link and read it…You’re going to need to learn alot more.
Am i supposed to see the textures in the “textures” window. I only see white. But i do see the names of course :.
Read the manual. If you this pissed off already, you have a lot more pain to come! :nag:
Seriously, read the manual, it will save you and the people here a lot of grief.
While reading the modelling manual (making own models for my maps for example ;)). Ive got 3dsmax and as it says that i need a small conversion program called “q3data”. I dont have that program? Where do i get it? I did a full install (all options checked) of GTKRadiant. Help!
Seriously, have you ever heard about google?
Small tip: Don’t actually start with 3 or more things at the same time. Get used to Radiant, then start 3D modelling. Radiant is a good start to get the basics of 3D modelling.
Point me to a place where is offered Q3data windows binary for download and found by google… :moo: cause there is no. If you know then please, tell me. I find “googlewhining” quite offending espescially if the “googler” is wrong (oops no results).
edit: should i compile the source code?
Patience is a virtue.
If you use google right, you know after a few links, that q3data is packaged in Q3 Tools (released back in 2000) - whoops 300+ hits. Go and download that last release from the id FTP .
- the “googler” that is so damn wrong :nag:
I like google hacking
edit: very nice, i dont find any q3data in that installation :(.
edit2: Yoohoo! It was included in the patch :.
Actually, its already included in the last Tools release: Q3ToolSetup_Mar172000.exe
Good luck.
Help!
textures/egypt_floor_sd/marblefloor_c04.tga
{
surfaceparm landmine
{
map textures/egypt_floor_sd/marblefloor_c04.tga
}
}
This is a shader file called nameless.shader (yes located in scripts folder :)).
And I havea a map called nameless.bsp.
I’d want the marble floor to be minable.
The shader manual is crap, besides every manuals there explaining anything else except the basic use of radiant are old.
So how do I do it right?
