I don’t know if it’s been brought up here but on other forums the sentiment is much the same as what i’m about to say.
A lot of the maps favor the defending team, but are more or less balanced if the attacking team plays well. Reactor however, which requires the attacking team to hack the vent system, is a completely flawed map.
It basically wants the defending team to camp in either of the two vent rooms, setting up turrets and mines, making it extremely difficult to get into those rooms. It’s also right at the top of the security spawn area, but on the other side of the map for the resistance spawn area.
If however you’re able to get into one of those areas as an attacker, the operatives are basically required to try and hack fast in the middle of the room in view for all security to shoot at, or go for an underground/round the corner hack which whilst safer takes far far longer. You also need your team mates in the vent room at all times trying to defend the hackbox, which is no easy job because of the spawn distances. I also think it’s far too easy in general for engineers to remove hackboxes and should take much longer, but that’s another topic.
I’ve only seen it done once, and that was when I did an underground hack when the game was first launched, and people didn’t really understand the objective. Since then, I’ve played on both sides on this map, and not seen anyone even get close.
Brink is supposed to be about being constantly on the move, but in this map, the security team basically just runs between the two rooms. I pretty much either go and make a sandwich/drink or leave the server when this map comes up, because after the Nth time of playing it and the same thing happening, it’s boring.
