Reactor - Hacking the Vent System: Map needs redesign

(De|f|c) #1

I don’t know if it’s been brought up here but on other forums the sentiment is much the same as what i’m about to say.

A lot of the maps favor the defending team, but are more or less balanced if the attacking team plays well. Reactor however, which requires the attacking team to hack the vent system, is a completely flawed map.
It basically wants the defending team to camp in either of the two vent rooms, setting up turrets and mines, making it extremely difficult to get into those rooms. It’s also right at the top of the security spawn area, but on the other side of the map for the resistance spawn area.
If however you’re able to get into one of those areas as an attacker, the operatives are basically required to try and hack fast in the middle of the room in view for all security to shoot at, or go for an underground/round the corner hack which whilst safer takes far far longer. You also need your team mates in the vent room at all times trying to defend the hackbox, which is no easy job because of the spawn distances. I also think it’s far too easy in general for engineers to remove hackboxes and should take much longer, but that’s another topic.
I’ve only seen it done once, and that was when I did an underground hack when the game was first launched, and people didn’t really understand the objective. Since then, I’ve played on both sides on this map, and not seen anyone even get close.

Brink is supposed to be about being constantly on the move, but in this map, the security team basically just runs between the two rooms. I pretty much either go and make a sandwich/drink or leave the server when this map comes up, because after the Nth time of playing it and the same thing happening, it’s boring.

Defense respawn times need adjustment. Engineers removal of hack progresses needs to be nerfed.

Still, reactor is waaay better in terms of balance compared to maps like Container City and Shipyard.

I find container city a very balanced map actually. Shipyard is very unabalanced as you say, but I’ve seen it completed numerous times by the attackers, the same can’t be said for reactor.

I really do love playing that map, the general layout and things but hacking seems a bit hard and the final stage is a bit meh but I think its my fav so far!

I think they should make it take the Engineer to reverse hack just as long as it takes the Spy to hack, at the least. I actually think that it should take a slight bit longer to reverse hack. As it stands though, I feel Engi’s reverse hack is OP.

I noticed a glitch with reactor the last time i played it. If you place a box on both of the objective points, only one of them gets its progress shown. Even when the other box was removed, i managed to finish hacking while the progress meter stayed at 0%

for the moment something goes wrong ! map design is really cool ! but about the balance of the map it’s another story ! respawn time make the game really really hard for the attack side.
Really need some fix about respawn time

Well as engi you can open the bridge access which opens the map up big time. But the problem is getting to it. You have to run past the vents to get to it.

It can be hard, i think the hacker boxes need to be better, its easy to destroy them.
