re-recording the original WAVs

(rouvio) #1

Hi.
As some of you guys probably know from my previous posts, I am an Admin of an Israeli ET server - “Israeli Territory”.

I get allot of demands from various ppl playing in my server to make a SPEECH MOD for the game. What I intent to do, is re-record the original CHAT files (like “we need a medic”) - to the identical meaning in my mother language. I have mapped already all the files of the chat (both Axis & Allies) - so now I know what every FILE says.

My question is like this , and please guys try to help -

assuming I re-recorded all of the chat files (both teams).
Whats next ?

What do i do in order to actually “mod” the game ? (I mean, what do i have to do so that the NEW wav files will play insted of the old ones ??

pack them up into a new .pk3 file using the same file structure. You can use the Saving Private Ryan sound pack as an example.

You have to place the .wav`s in directories and then zip the directory and all the sub dirs, after this rename the .zip to .pk3 and upload it to your server.

The directory structure is, main dir: sound with sub dir(s):chat and vo, chat has 2 sub dirs: allies and axis, vo dir has a sub dir general and general has 2 sub dirs: allies and axis. (it will look like “drawing” below)

sound
|
|- -chat
| ##|
| ## -allies
| ## -axis
|- -vo

|

-general

#####|
#####-allies
#####-axis

#=spaces, using spaces did messup the layout

In chat you place the teamchats, like: i need a medic, we need covertops etc. in the vo map you put the voice overs, like: destroy the south gun etc.

One other thing - you probably need to name the .pk3 something that comes alphabetically AFTER pak1 - If it won’t work first shot, try naming it beginning with R to Z.

???

HUH ?? :???:

instead of naming the pk3 something named, for instance, israeliet.pk3, name it risraeliet.pk3. et loads pk3s in alphabetical order.

I think the Pak files automatically get loaded first though

(rouvio) #9

does it matter in what order I put the pk3 line in my server ?

I always though that when the game loads - it loads with itself ALL the pk3 files… :eek2:

Of course it matters, especially in cases where people are proposing to do exactly what you are doing. You’re files are going to ‘overwrite’ the original sounds. So, yes, all pk3 files get loaded, but is your sound file going to take precendence or are the original files going to take precedence.

Along the same lines, you’ll notice that some people get sloppy and make custom textures but name them the same as the originals, in which case, they override the default texture on EVERY map that uses them - much to the mapper’s chagrin.
