Let’s try and stay on topic chaps. The discussion here is the Ranking system. It’d definitely be interesting to hear thoughts from more people on this.

(spookify) #27

Lets start thinking out side the Box for a ranking system… I assume it will be like LOL or CS in some way and naming and or brakets might be the harderst…

So here are some out of the box ideas (Instead of Gold, Silver and so on)

IDEA #1
LIGHT

Tier 1: Gamma Ray (Gamma)
Tier 2: X Rays (X)
Tier 3: Ultra Violet (Ultra)
Tier 4: Visible Light (Rainbow)
Tier 5: Infrared (Inferno)
Tier 6: Radio Waves (Ridiculous)

Ding ding ding ding! We’ve got a winner, we’ve got a winner!

Heheh, seriously though…it’s great to see you stepping outside of the box with your suggestions. LoL and SC II do the whole bronze, silver, gold malarky (along with plenty of other titles). CS went a different route with ranks such as “Legendary Eagle Master” and “Supreme Master First Class”. While a little more colourful, CS’s rank names are much more difficult to remember, and not immediately obvious as to which is superior through name alone. Maintaining ease of comprehension, while finding something new and interesting isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but it’s certainly a nice aspiration to have.

Can’t wait to reach Milla Jovovich…

(chippy) #29

As long as each division/rank is easy to remember just by the name.

  1. Alpha

  2. Beta

  3. Charlie

  4. Primary

  5. Secondary

  6. Tertiary

  7. Tera

  8. Giga

  9. Mega
… (This one could probably work quite well due to the setting DB has)

(spookify) #30

You: What rank are you?
Me: I’m MJ.
You: No Way! I can’t wait to be in Milla Jovovich!
Me: Yeah its nice but I blew it in 30 Seconds and just dropped to Fire League…

:o

(Glottis-3D) #31

are talking here about clan ranking system for matchmaking between clans (ingame clan system)?
or individual ranking for public mix?

For the ranked Match Making…

I am thinking League Clan play will be 3rd party. However there might be a 5 person Joiner like in LOL…

(spookify) #34

The question is what kind of ranking system will be in place in “Dirty Bomb”.

Looks like 2 rebel factions are going against each other in a post government era…

Lets not forget we are in London so they might come up with something medieval or Royal

Tier 1: Present (Novice) (Commoner) (Slave) (Old Man) (Elder) (Woman hahahaha)
Tier 2: Entertainers
Tier 3: Tradesmen, Merchants
Tier 4: Clergy
Tier 5: Military (Sergeant)
Tier 6: Nobility
Tier 7: Royalty League (King/Queen and so on depending on Gender picked at start of game.)
http://www.lscacamp.org/Portals/0/Medieval%20People.pdf

Or Bites and Pieces from Each

Tier 2: Apprentice
Tier 3: Solider
Tier 4: Knight
Tier 5: King
Tier 6: GOD (Champion, The Few, Epic or L33t, PRO, Elite… This should be the easiest to name…)

FINAL

Must Be Level 20 To Enter Ranked with 10 Mercs Unlocked

Tier 1: Peasant
-Level 1 (0 - 1000 Ranked Points)
-Level 2
-Level 3
-Level 4
-Level 5
-Level 6

Tier 2: Apprentice

And what naming convention is SD looking for? :stuck_out_tongue:

If we’re now talking about player levels, I really like how Tribes are naming them (except all the inbetweeners I / II / III / etc). I might also add I’m not a really big fan of using actual military/law enforcement names for them, feels so cheesy. If we could get more of a story behind DB (CDA, GH center on bridge, etc) it would be really cool to name everything according to that. Think in the lines of the Judge Dredd comics, Cadet → Rookie → Street Judge → Riot Judge → Senior Judge → … → Chief Justice.

(Mustang) #39

So we’re on the topic of tier names now?

Colours are boring, military ranks are acceptable, although rather pretentious and dated.

Something in the same vein but more lighthearted would be nice, I like the whole legendary eagle, elite master race, supreme commander, godlike thing, although anything that starts with console peasant, newbie, rookie or something else jokingly derogatory would make me smile.

Just think along the lines of the Wolf3D difficulty levels and don’t try to take yourselves too seriously.
IDEA #1
LIGHT

Tier 1: Gamma Ray (Gamma)
Tier 2: X Rays (X)
Tier 3: Ultra Violet (Ultra)
Tier 4: Visible Light (Rainbow)
Tier 5: Infrared (Inferno)
Tier 6: Radio Waves (Ridiculous)
You would probably want to reverse that order so you go by increasing energy rather than increasing wave length (as shown on your pic). Whether or not you care about physics, Ultra should be higher up than Infra

My suggestion would be once again to embrace our inner merc and go with synonyms of “mercenary” and similar:

Cannon Fodder (ouch!)
Hired Gun
Soldier of Fortune
Dog of War
Freelancer
PMC (Private Military Contractor)
