Agreed - especially when it’s an ugly purple shiny. That said, I do think a system like this could work:

Make it a weighted system based on individual score with opposing ranks, match time, and whether you win, lose, or tie taken into consideration. Similar to how credits are calculated at the end of the match. It’d be too hard to manipulate the system and just case farm with that many variables accounted for.

What about rewarding players who do well with extra ranked points? Like for instance:

Top score on each team gets an additional 15 ranked points
2nd gets 10
3rd gets 5

This way it gives people a good reason to stick out the match, play to their best, no matter the outcome. If you lose, but you were a great team-player you get 25 ranked points instead of 10 for working hard. I can’t tell you how many times my effort feels wasted because I spent 30 minutes out-scoring my team by 2x only to lose and get 10 points for my efforts because I just couldn’t carry everyone. This would at least give people a reason to not give up and instead continue playing their best no matter the outcome.

I haven’t done ranked since forever, due to ff, but if you’re telling me I need 100 losses (cause, as if I’m winning) to get a case that has ALL the mercs with ALL the loadouts, I’m not inclined to try ranked again. RNG too hard for the amount of work it takes.

I wouldn’t mind playing with my friends that are not as great if this were the case! Great idea!

For how unstable DB balance is, how crappy their server choices are for me, not to mention random bugs with ranked and kicking us out of matches? Fudge the points they give right now. It’s just plain not fun.
If servers were good and teamplay was more present in the randoms I queue with that are outside of my party? Fine. But getting 10 points for being stomped on for an entire match doesn’t feel good. And I don’t call triple the next guys score a participation prize, I worked my butt off for nothing, again, and again.

@Nail Usually, I appreciate your wise, brisk and pointed remarks. I’d like to make a quick point though.

Dirty Bomb is a game. The “real world” approach doesn’t always work, nor should it always be applied. I don’t want my “investment” in virtual reality to feel like a chore, and I certainly don’t want to be further slapped in the face for sucking when it’s not me who is sucking.
If DB ranked is truly balanced around the best of the best, then the system would still be able to rank you based on your individual performance, or team contribution performance in a match, rather than the end result.

To use a real world example, the people that fail the most times, but within certain margins, are usually the best. I could be cliche and quote the Lincoln failing many times before his several different successes, but I think I’m clear. It’s about fun, and what keeps people playing. Every good game designer knows the line between encouraging rage quit by difficulty, and encouraging constant playtime. Dirty Bomb’s ranked system is lacking at the moment.

I agree, but hard work and effort shouldn’t go unnoticed. I think that’s what people are getting at. If I work for a garbage company with garbage pay, but bust my ass and bring a lot of value, I’m personally rewarded through a promotion - even if the pay and company still suck. That recognition and work could also open up more opportunities in another field. Speaking of fields, I could be an elite, top-level athlete playin’ on a hockey or football team that’s terrible but still get paid a warranted amount. If anything, the current point system is more like a participation trophy. Everyone earns the same amount whether they win or lose and individual effort is an afterthought. Hmm, that smells a lot like socialism. Say no to socialism, folks. Make Dirty Bomb Ranked Great Again. B)

Another case eats the dust, and another one sucks and another one sucks…
I think the system should just be reworked, not sure how though. The ranked point or half a ranked point per minute idea gives slight participation reward for flat playtime, and then an incentivized amount for MVPs both in contribution and what they’re doing for each team could also be worked in. Maybe score divided by 4,000 = additional ranked points, with total multiplied by .1x where “x” is your position in the score with top being equal to “5” in “x”. So first player gets a 1.5 multiplier to the “additional” ranked points, next gets 1.4, etc.

So if you have 28,000 score and are in number one position after a 30 minute match, you would gain a total of 55.5 with whatever the match result is (win/loss etc).
{30 (1 point a minute) + 7 (score formula)}x1.5 = 55.5 points. Add on 10/15 for a loss, 30 for draw, etc. to that number. Maybe even reduce the total of what is added on after a match. such as 10 for a loss, 20 for draw, 30 for win. Very marginal boost.

Again, no real idea, but this personally sounds better structured and meaningful than what we have now.

Which is why ranked is easily justified as being called a waste of time. 10-15 minutes wait for a match (which I am fine with as long as I get a balanced match, which I typically don’t, making this a problem), then 10 minutes or so of stomps and troll teamkillers, then a slap in the face with 10 points for your trouble? No thanks.

Yep, because that’s what I want from my video games, a middle finger simulator.

Of course not everything deserves a reward, but the game should be rewarding, and this system doesn’t provide that feeling.

So essentially what everyone seems to be getting at is that the skins shouldn’t be locked behind ranked points since nobody here cares about ranked.

No one has yet to mention the season end rewards or any kind of rewards for rank progression. So everyone who wants more ranked points just see ranked as a grind for the shiny skins, as they don’t actually care about ranked.

“I’m bronze but I also deserve more ranked points.” Oh, yes, the participation award.
If you play ranked, the only reward you should care about is your Elo.

It’s just a silly system to include casuals in ranked who don’t want to be there in the first place. I mean they even added ranked points boosters for crying out loud…

Instead of only adding limited edition skins, SD should finally either add new skins to the default cases which still only include 10 skins or make a new, more expensive case with new skins.

I don’t want ranked catering towards some filthy casuals. If I wanna play in a zoo, I’ll just jump into the first 8vs8 server I can find.
