Ranked Insentive

(Verticules) #1

A non-intuitive reward system, I think, may help our ranked scene.

Tokens:

Tokens are earned from a minimum of 5 ranked matches played each week:
(Rank: Tokens earned)
Bronze: 1
Silver: 2
Gold: 3
Cobalt: 4
Elite: 6

Buyable Rewards:
(Reward (Requirement): Cost)

Gold Quality Season Loadout Card: 4 Tokens
Bronze Player = 4 weeks
Silver Player = 2 weeks

Cobalt Quality Season Loadout Card (Gold rank min): 8 Tokens
Gold Player = 3 weeks
Cobalt Player = 2 weeks

Obsidian Quality Season Loadout Card (Cobalt 1 rank min): 12 Tokens
Cobalt 1 Player = 3 weeks
Elite Player = 2 weeks

Unspent tokens at the end of a season are replaced with credits. (Tokens x Credit Worth = Credit Payout)

I really like this except for the minimum rank requirements, we’ve already got the trinkets for that. Why not make all the loadouts something everyone can work towards and allow them to save/spend the tokens to their choosing? Otherwise, a cool idea!

@blonk In this system, everyone can get something from playing, but adding requirements for some things will drive some players to play more than the minimum 5 games a week. I think it would benefit the queue population even more.

I worry that it would embitter players who are struggling to rank up further if the even shinier rewards (skins) are locked away because they are, from their perspective, getting stuck with the influx of pubbies that want these new shiny skins

@blonk If ranked placements and MMR were more diverse, granted there is a higher population of players, the skill gap shouldn’t be a common issue. Any insentive to play ranked will draw players you want to play with, and players you don’t. No insentive is pub proof.

If any skill lvl can receive the same reward, why play more? Why make an effort to improve your play?

So each week you receive tokens according to your current rank then?

So let’s say I have hopeless aim and still love the game, why would I be interested playing ranked if for example I’d be stuck in bronze without the potential to climb the ladder?
I mean sure the players might get more competitive about the game, but you’re going to need higher rank for more rewards. People will QQ about their teams more and toxicity will increase in my opinion.

While I really like this idea and how even every casual player can get these rewards after X amount of games, I do think rewarding higher ranks more is not the best way for this.

Instead I thought of a more SD type of approach, RNG on top of RNG.

After every 10 ranked games players will have a chance to either get bonus credits(about 15k, to somewhat match the value of other rewards), an expert case or an elite case. Each reward would have 33% chance.
(So for perfect RNG you would roll for: Elite Case > A or B > Cobalt > Shard or Fragment > preferred merc > preferred loadout.)

This way players could earn a rather high value loadout way easier than playing in pubs and those who play more will get rewarded more. So it’s all up to how much time you invest into ranked games.

Here is one: Make it worthwhile to play, not to mention being able to play pubs for the terribly long search time.
