Ran out of video memory. Exiting...

(blind) #1

Basically, after 4-5 months of being away from the beta due to various reasons, I decided to update the game and check out its current state. However, the game keeps crashing to desktop (the crash message is the same as the thread title, ‘Ran out of video memory. Exiting’), most often just as the map is done loading, or, less often, between ~10-100 seconds after the map starts.

Things to consider:

  • the crashing didn’t occur in the first months of the beta (played actively until december or january)
  • my PC specs are slightly better than the recommended specifications listed here
  • turned every fancy graphics option, and everything video graphics related, off or set to lowest, including the texture commands in the .ini, lowering the resolution, etc. (also, all drivers updated)
  • using 32bit windows (UE3 engine games struggle with it?)
  • actually managed to play 2 rounds of Whitechapel without crashing, is this map possibly less system intensive than others?

specs:
AMD 3.2ghz quad
GTX460 768mb
4gb RAM
32bit Win7

is there any known fix or anything else i can do?

thanks in advance.

I’m on a GTX460 and not had any video RAM issues though I also have to have everything on low to get decent FPS. As you’re on 32-bit OS you will only be able to address 3GB of pc RAM.

I have a beta player (“PoweR”, previously “BoxinG”), and he has the same issue as in the OP. Impossible to debug it even by reducing the textures and geometry quality (so it’s not a VRAM issue). I went into the logs and here is the error reported:

[0160.81] Log: === Critical error: ===
Ran out of virtual memory. To prevent this condition, you must free up more space on your primary hard disk.

This is a nice error message, the only problem is that he has over 200GO available on the primary hard disk …

I attached the full logs here:
