Rail gun (map)

I’d love it if they released a map for brink similar to the old “rail-gun” map from W:ET.

I love how much that map changed depending on which phase it was on. First take the train one way, then back. They could change all the scenery, have it be a completely different place, but with the same dynamics. That’d be great.

Damn. I think I need to reinstall W:ET now.

Most W:ET maps had that quality. It’s also the only example where teams implicitly change between defending and attacking without losing focus . It’s amazing.

I remember Rail Gun as the map where nothing ever changed, Axis trying to get the train across for some time then everything descending into apathy. On pubs it was just Team Deathmatch 90% of the time. If Axis ever won, it was typically within the first 5 minutes or never. The fact you could undo any progress was awful.

I do remember there being problems with the map… no doubt… but I also remember having epic back and forth battles on the map.

Do you guys still play W:ET, or does anyone know of any good W:ET servers still aboot?

I think this mechanic would work really well in Brink and wouldn’t detract from the fact you can only do one objective at a time in Brink.

I’d probably say this was my favorite map for a while, for the axis to win they had to control the spawn that you can capture and push with the tug. (I remember playing on a server with a script where if the axis had the CP built the allies couldn’t re-take the spawn, same for them which I thought was a nifty idea.

The only gripe I had with rail gun was how close the allied spawn was to the objective that is the level crossing and same when the tug had the ammo but was at the depot.

Did any of you all play on the Wodanfire server ever?

Thats why taking control over the train barrier at the right times was essential.
That map was awesome and the one who designed that map a genius.

SD should do maps like theses, as well as a campaign almost exactly designed after Star Fox 64’s campaign structure. : O

That’d be ideal.

Wasn’t this one of the most maligned maps in ET? Defense takes over the railyard, camps the flag, wins. At least that’s how the competitive teams played the map. Not to mention that unbalanced teams pushed the offense back to spawn? Rage quit galore.
At least with default settings.

Yes, that was the problem I remember on the map. D pushing O back to spawn and being able to keep them there…not dissimilar to bad rounds of Container City TBH.

But when Rail Gun was good it was great!

To be honest i haven’t really played that much W:ET (to this day the exploding chickens confuse me) , but it would be awesome if somehow some of the most beloved maps were recreated in Brink. I really loved the one where you had to escort the tank through some streets and steal the gold from a bank.

(deems) #12

In an ideal world, they would be recreated, but not copied… Similar possible pathways, but re-imagined…in a different setting that fits into the ark-scape. Hopefully an SDK will make this a possibility down the road.

Railgun is hardest offical W:ET map. Well as axis. Allies just need to camp at the track switch.
Siwa Oasis and Frostbite FTW! :riflenade:

Oasis > Gold Rush > Seawall Battery > Fueldump > Railgun > Radar.

(tokamak) #14

That’s the best multiplayer map ever made. Goldrush is a masterpiece. The focus of the map changes dynamically as the game proceeds. It revolves around an incredibly interesting centre of the map and frankly it’s just amazing.

And yeah W:ET is almost unplayable these days. It’s nearly impossible to find a server that hasn’t been completely warped by custom trash or that doesn’t turn your main menu into ultra-right wing propaganda. What I wouldn’t give to see SD release the game + ETPro (optional) without any further possible ways of modifying it.

Nah. We want new stuff. If this was W:ET 2 then sure. But, maps have to be specifically tailored to fit within the story of the Ark and the map layout of the Ark. I want Brink Maps.

this may be unpopular to say but…“shrug”.
