Rahdo's words - what happened here?

(Crytiqal) #761

Sooooo… There won’t be any new DLC coming?

Unless Bethesda think it’s worth to pay “hundreds of thousands of pounds” there won’t be any new DLC

This also means if they won’t even support new DLC, that we can forget about an SDK being payed for…

Should I also say that without SDK, there won’t be any promod?
Should I also say that without a promod, there won’t be any competition?

(tangoliber) #762

If they aren’t working on DLC already, then its not coming. :frowning:

Anyway, I look forward to Splash Damage’s next project!

Is there any possibility of a match browser for consoles? I assume that is far too out of budget, like the SDK. What about a “Search All” option, or a “Any Region” setting for matchmaking? We need something to help bring everyone together, so that people who aren’t in the chatrooms can get games.

Everyone else has to be working on something else. We need to know what that something else is. Send in a UAV!

Is it possible they’re working on Clan Support and will we see that implemented soon?

They could be working on their new game. They started work on Brink two weeks after ETQW’s release.

(Ojama666) #765

Well I sure hope they do release more DLC, i’de pay for every piece of it.

He already said the team working on the fixes is small. The rest of the team is working on the next project already.

(Crytiqal) #767

wolfnemesis read my post again

It clearly says that they are not working on a new DLC.
Only if Bethesda think it’s worth hundreds of thousands of dollars (which I doubt they do) then SD will create new DLC

This translates into the game not receiving future DLC’s and I don’t think they have the money to make a lot more patches.
(ETQW 1.5 was paid out of SD’s own pocket and that was the final patch, I don’t think SD will pay a patch out of their own pocket once again)

A thought occurred to me: Brink sets the foundation and blueprint for what the game will be going forward. Its a staging ground, and has established its identity in the context of its own niche now. The bulk of the set-up is established: The site map architectural elements and layouts the areas yet to be explored, and this blueprint allows for great flexibility in terms of how each area will contribute to the depth of the story and action going forward. It now feels like, we are battling in an evolving war unique to the Ark. Where it goes from here is the exciting part. I can envision several outcomes and this new shadowy figure of the outsiders adds an element of uncertainty and a dilemma for all Ark people. The intriguing part is with all the double agents and multiple plot lines, what will become of the Ark. The blueprint is there. Releasing the game and letting players shape that struggle is another element that I find very intriguing about this game. Its like, Brink establishes so much by allowing each player to feel part of the developing expansion and civil war. That’s cool. The time gaps between the AOC and the shipped game shows a lot of area for fleshing out the story further. Its like, now that the blueprint has been established, we can get to the juicy parts. Reactor shows us that its a tenuous balance on the Ark, and it can all go sour quickly.

You basically reformulated the same sentence about ten times.

my thoughts on possibility of additional DLC from another thread (that was closed, through no fault of my own!

my (optimistic) hope is that enough random folks who somehow didnt grab the dlc when it was free, or people who pick up the game new/used on the cheap plunk down the $10 more to get the dlc, and that enough do so to convince Bethesda of the viability of a second round of new maps. I will gladly give my $10 for another pair of maps…all we need is ~19,999 more and they’d have financial reason to do so… one can hope, right?

Actually just 19,998… Count me in too!!!

Four maps would be even better!
He’s already said several times that developing an SDK would cost far more than you seem to think.
Drop it.

Nexo
Cause you believe all the bull****s they tell you?
They sure have an editor … don’t you think?
and they sure prepared maps to sell more DLCs, ok?

What about transform their own editor in a SDK and sell it with new maps in the next DLC?
Maybe they can effort the costs that way?

But unlucky for us, the problem is another: sdk means investments. They don’t wanna invest money in a project that already entered the dead rail. And the other problem is that this game had a 3 months life longer.
It’s a shame especially toward the sd fans and their customers. It’s a shame consider this game a “success” only watching the selling stats and not stating how many players enjoy the game during the game sessions.

This game is DAMN boring. Maps are DAMN boring. Objectives are DAMN boring.
Everything induce to the drowsiness

RELEASE SDK for **** sake!

(SockDog) #774

Think I’ve about said my part. I feel SD burned some personal bridges with Brink, I’m not bitter (it’s just a game), if they feel that was worth the cash I hope they realise they’ll have to work harder next time to earn my money and vague statements like “we know pc controls” or “you’ll like what you hear” really aren’t going to cut it with me anymore.

(thesuzukimethod) #775

My optimistic hope is that by opening up to the console market (with associated tradeoffs) gave SD some solvency that was not likely/possible in a PC-only dev cycle, and that this will help them do more of what they wanted for you PC guys in the future.

Trade-offs suck, especially when you were starting from the position of a game that you really really liked, but even if brink is only a moderate success (in terms of overall numbers and player persistence), (inferring from Rahdo’s comments here) it should open them up to some opportunities that were not available if they stayed in the PC-only marketplace (am i correct in reading that ETQW did not make them any money, even though it was a critical success).

You can (and perhaps do) disagree with this strategy, but hopefully, the long game results in something better (e.g. more money for pc development, given success on consoles) than if they had never ventured into console (read: multiplatform) development.

(light_sh4v0r) #776

This is exactly what I feel.

(Nexolate) #777

Why would they lie to us? Not every developer releases an SDK for every game you know, probably for the same reasons he outlined.

As for it being boring, fine; you’re entitled to your own opinion. Just don’t come on here demanding unreasonable things just because you think that the developers are lying to you.

Nexo

know that this forum is public and i dont need your permission to ask anything…
And you can also ignore me cause sincerely am really tired of fanboys and SD’s makeshift lawyers with their violins.what people (not only me) is asking are other games’s default things. Just this game can’t have what other have on default.

record demo, spectator view on first person, a normal hud, and blah blah blah … SD already know what we want they just abandoned this title. God is witness i won’t buy a sd title anymore.

(dazman76) #779

There’s a difference between “asking”, and “SD RELEASE THE SDK FOR **** SAKE”, don’t you think? Rahdo has spent hours replying to posts in this thread - at least show him some respect in return. He didn’t even need to write a single post in here - and he’s already done far more than that. I’ve provided a fair bit of constructive criticism myself - feel free to call that negativity if you will, I won’t disagree - but I absolutely respect Rahdo, Exedore and the gang replying directly to our posts. You should really do the same. They are human, after all - except for the Tapirs.

Ye gads, shoot me now. I’ve been reading Nexolate’s posts myself, and he’s been pretty neutral since he arrived here recently. You’re calling him a fanboy because he’s disagreeing with you - that’s just silly, and makes you look far worse than him telling you to “quit it” because you’re beating a dead horse. Really not worth going there.

(Shinigami) #780

Oh, Rahdo. I feel real sorry for you. People singled you out on this thread an have taken countless shots at you. I will admit that I am one of the many people who were a bit disappointed with Brink. But for what it is worth, I believe the development team truly had the best intentions with this game and made it as good as they humanly could. And if you could not deliver on your promises it was because it was out of your hands and not because you don’t give a $hit. I only hope this serves as a learning experience and next time around can be better.
