Radio chat

(RasteRayzeR) #1

Back when I played ET:QW a LOT, I used to love the quick access to the radio chat with the mouse wheel’s click, then use the aim to select quick options changed dynamically according to the context in the game :

So, here is my question : would such a feature fit in DB ?

I’d like this aswell, but with the ability to change it to a list instead so it doesn’t block the sun out

I like the etqw style but to make the ET guys happy, we can have both

the vsay commands are fine i think, just need to make the voices more believable and committed i guess lol. right now it just sounds like a text to speech retard about to jizz his pants. v57!

Thats why I said, that both options should be there. Make a check Box ingame that gives you the et chat system and one that gives you the etqw system. Both a almost the same, both get opened with v and in both you can navigate with numbers. The etqw one just gives you the oportunity to navigate with the mouse.

And yes, the vsay voice right now is just hilarious

The chat as overlay in the center of the view was only enabled by clicking the mouse’ wheel and had only the essential chat options according to where you are, what you do, and what should be done.

I’d really want this option back because for me it’s faster to get the radio chat items I need. And of course the vsay voices will be replaced, but probably later. With each new update the game becomes really much more funny !
The perfect system I can think of would be:

 • vsays as we have now (v21 etc), but that can be controlled both by numbers and letters. (So you could do v21, of vws for instance). I honestly love this system and have found no equivalent. It’s quick and easy, any kind of wheel or something that requires mouse movement to select stuff is tedious and wastes precious time. Vsays should be a replacement for voip if you’re mic isn’t working so they should be as instant as voip is.

Then in addition to vsays have a smart button (like the smart stuff on Q) Here are a few examples of what it would do:

 • Point at medic and press button: “I need a medic”
 • Point at EV: “Disable/Repair the EV”
 • Point at Fdops: “I need ammo”
 • Point at ammo/health pack: “Ammo/Health here”
 • etc

This would also display a little exclamation icon like in dota2 on the minimap that shows up for the relevant parties. (IF you’re pointing at a medic only he needs to hear it/ be aware of who’s requesting)

EDIT: Maybe you could expand a little bit on the second idea too, like pointing at the EV and pressing the button wouldn’t immediately say something but instead navigate straight to the Objective commands in the vsay menu and allow you to pick repair/disable/etc yourself. (Just an aid in navigating the vsay menu faster)
still, this kind of radio chat was nice in ET:QW, but I’m sure we can improve it somehow for DB, with tools to call a medic fast when down. Also why can’t we chat while we are dead ? This was possible in all previous games …

I haven’t seen any game do better than what ETQW did.

(en2ie) #11

I used that alot in ETQW, would be great in DB - I hate having loads of binds to remember and this removes quite a few of them.

Nah, mouse 3 is for instakill knife

(RasteRayzeR) #13

mouse 3 is not assigned yet … I checked

I think choice is key, just like most aspects of the game, some will like it one way, others another way, if you can give the user a personal choice aka a bf3 style chat selection VS’s an ET style chat menu and even turning it off all together / muting any radio I think would be the best way to go about it and that applies to allot of different areas within DB
