Radiant noob

(fat boost) #1

Is there a something somewhere that covers the basics of Radiant? This is the first time I’ve ever tried to make a Q3 engine map, and judging by all the errors I’m getting the Radiant manual is either A) horribly outdated or B) horribly wrong. (or C), i’m an idiot, but what are the odds of that, honestly :moo: )

Tramdesign and people’s individual sites are all on specifics (how to make windows, CTF scripts, etc.), I’m wondering if there’s just a basic “How to use Radiant” out there somewhere.

thanks in advance (but only if you actually help somehow)

The tutorials start out as basic as possible and get more and more complex.

You can also look for ‘first map’ tutorials for quake3. The basics are the same no matter what game you are mapping for.

Great site. Is for q3 mapping but it is almost the same as RTCW so you can learn alot there.

Honestly the best way to learn Radiant imo is to either a) open up a sample map in Radiant (often included with q3 engine games) and just mess around with the keyboard and mouse and icons and see what happens or b) find a tut and try it out. If you do the latter you will soon find out that creating stuff in Radiant isnt too terribly difficult. The difficult part about making maps is not knowing how to do it, but knowing what makes a good map…

A good tut to start with (imo the best “1st tut” on the web period) is this:
