RadeonPro third-party software incompatible with Brink

CTDs are starting to upset me, and I’m about ready to give up on this game. I get random CTDs with no error now while playing. I’m running a 5870+5850 in crossfire with latest application profiles and 11.5b, latest drivers.

Help at this point would be tremendously appreciated. Crash dumps are attached.

Try disabling CrossFire until they get working CrossFire Profiles for Brink. Supposed to be with the next patch I believe 11.6. Might have been the 11.5b that got the working CrossFire Profiles, now that I wrote it I am not sure. But I dont recall anyone stating that the 11.5b fixed the CrossFire for them.

The official ATI notes for the latest 11.5b drivers say they added a Brink profile. I will try turning it off anyway.

Disabling Xfire did not fix the problem. I wonder if its some other driver on my PC

I’m in the same boat. 4850 here, I’ll get through 3 maps no problem, then crash for 2 days straight never finishing a map. Never a specific error message, screen freezes, sound loops, then goes white “this program has stopped responding” windows message.

Steam version, Windows 7, updated drivers.

You could try disabling playback and recording devices to see if you still get a crash(or unplug them from comp), if you dont crash in the same time period it might be something with your Sound Card.

What audio drivers or card are you both running is that up to date? There is the setting under playback devices and recording devices that allows a program to take exclusive control of the hardware and drivers. Might be worth trying to change your setting there and see if it helps. I personally dont allow any programs to exclusively take control of my audio driver since I am usually running multiple programs that require audio transmitting.

No guarantees that is the problem, but is a method to rule out the Sound Card. Many games over the years didn’t like to run properly if the Sound Card and drivers were not just right depending on your hardware.

Might also be running out of RAM or CPU/GPU usage/temps are getting to high.

Temps are fine, I did a CPU stresstest just to be sure. Did a ram stress test as well and it ran all night fine. I’ve run GPU stress tests and that didn’t crash.

I disabled my sound card and was able to play through 2 maps without crashing, longest I’ve gone. So it seems ot be sound related primarily…though can’t be positive.

Hmm usually in games if it is sound card related and you disable the sound card your issues disappear.

The Brink sound engine causes lot of crashes on many sound cards, on my Xonar D1 the sound just stop lol.

I had to disable the “GX” function -> I no longer have sound crashes but no more EAX or 5.1…

Notice it’s the only game for 3 years that caused issues with my Xonar (by far the best sound drivers available)

That’s why I’ll quit this game as soon as RO 2 and BF3 will be out.

I disabled Crossfire, Disabled Sound, done everything I can think of. At this point I’m extremely disappointed in the Developers. I really like this game, but not being able to play for more than 10 minutes totally sucks. Doesn’t help that I keep losing my XP and can’t level either, so its just become an all around frustrating experience.

After trying everything I could think of, I found out disabling RadeonPro seems to have helped immensely. I disabled RP, cleared it’s cache, and checked “Disable API monitoring for apps not in my profile list.” I am now able to run RadeonPro without the game crashing constantly.

As of this time the crash seems resolved, but I’ll keep this post updated.

Would have helped a ton if you had mentioned that you were using third party programs to set graphics adjustments.

Well here is the kicker, I wasn’t. I wasn’t using RadeonPro to create a brink profile or to set my default settings.

Before, I would crash every 5 to 15 minutes max. Sometimes I crashed after 3 seconds. I would also crash when joining a multiplayergame IF Vsync was NOT enabled in the game options.

Since disabling RadeonPro’s API monitoring I have not had a single crash in over 3 hours of consecutive playtime. I can also join servers regardless of my Vsync setting.
